A global leader in defence technology is seeking an Algorithms Team Lead to head its core algorithms group in Sydney. This team develops the intelligence behind advanced detection and electronic warfare systems, digital signal processing, and software engineering to deliver breakthrough performance in real-world environments.
Reporting to senior engineering leadership, this position is equal parts technical strategy, people leadership, and execution. The successful candidate will define the vision for algorithmic innovation, drive delivery across complex projects, and mentor a high-performing team of engineers and scientists.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team spanning DSP and software engineering.
- Define technical direction and execution plans for algorithm research, development, and deployment.
- Bridge business priorities with engineering outcomes, ensuring innovation delivers measurable value.
- Oversee project delivery — setting milestones, managing dependencies, and ensuring successful execution.
- Champion best practices in algorithm design, experimentation, and software engineering.
- Oversee testing and validation of algorithmic solutions across multiple products and use cases.
- Collaborate with other technical leaders to align strategies across sensors, effectors, and systems.
- Provide ongoing mentorship, technical guidance, and career development for team members.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience leading engineering or research teams.
- At least 3 years’ experience working with AI/ML-based or data-driven systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python and C/C++.
- Experience with project management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Proven ability to translate technical objectives into business outcomes.
- Skilled communicator who can work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Track record of delivering commercial, production-ready solutions end-to-end.
- Background in Electronic Warfare (EW), Radio Frequency (RF), or advanced sensing technologies highly valued.
