📍 Brisbane CBD (Hybrid) | ⏰ Contract until June 2026 | 💼 Government Project

We're seeking an experienced Application Developer (Java) to join a high-profile digital transformation initiative supporting critical service delivery and regulatory reform. This role will contribute to a major change program aimed at improving business processes, technology enablement, and stakeholder outcomes.

About the Role

You will play a key role in designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting a range of in-house applications built on Oracle and Enterprise Java platforms. Working closely with project and ICT teams, you'll deliver fit-for-purpose solutions that drive productivity and compliance within a dynamic and fast-evolving regulatory environment.

This position offers the opportunity to work on meaningful public sector initiatives that improve efficiency and service delivery across Queensland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions using Java SE/EE and associated technologies.

  • Perform systems analysis, impact assessment, and application enhancement in alignment with business goals.

  • Ensure adherence to coding standards, quality assurance practices, and change/release management procedures.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, providing technical guidance and support as required.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transition technical knowledge and deliver business value.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Enterprise Java development (Java 17 or higher).

  • Proven experience with JSF, Spring 5.x, Hibernate/JPA, and Maven.

  • Strong skills in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and secure web application development.

  • Hands-on experience with Oracle SQL/PLSQL and TomEE/Tomcat application servers.

  • Proficiency with Git (Bitbucket), Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD best practices.

  • Experience writing unit/integration tests using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, or PowerMock.

  • Familiarity with Selenium or similar web testing frameworks.

  • Exposure to Unix or Windows deployment environments.

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related discipline.

  • Experience delivering software solutions in a government or regulated environment.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
