Head of Legal and Compliance

As Head of Legal and Compliance, you will lead the development and execution of our legal strategy, ensuring full compliance with local and international regulations, especially within the defense, cybersecurity, and dual-use technology domains.

You will build and oversee legal, compliance, and regulatory operations, protect the company’s IP portfolio, manage risk exposure, and act as the company’s primary authority on matters of legal ethics, privacy, and international defense trade regulations.

Your responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead the legal and compliance function, currently with one direct report.
• Provide strategic legal counsel to the executive team and board of directors.
• Build and continuously improve legal and compliance frameworks to support company growth.

Defense Sector & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with defense and dual-use regulations, including ITAR, EAR, EU Dual-Use Regulation, and national procurement laws.
• Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities and defense oversight bodies.
• Stay ahead of changes in defense, security, and export control legislation affecting the business.

Privacy & Data Protection (GDPR)

• Oversee global data privacy and protection policies, ensuring GDPR and other jurisdictional compliance.
• Lead internal efforts on data handling, breach response, and privacy by design in product development.

Intellectual Property (IP) Management.

• Develop and implement IP strategy, covering patents, trade secrets, copyrights, and trademarks.
• Oversee portfolio management, enforcement, and licensing activities.

Contracting & Commercial Legal

• Draft, negotiate, and manage complex contracts, including defense procurement agreements, technology licensing, and cross-border partnerships.
• Support strategic deals, joint ventures, and public-private collaborations.
• Ensure internal contract governance and risk mitigation processes are robust and efficient.

Corporate Governance & Risk

• Support corporate governance, board operations, and legal structure.
• Conduct legal risk assessments and advise on mitigation strategies.
• Foster a strong internal compliance culture, including employee training and ethical guidance.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in law.
• 8+ years of legal experience, with at least 3 years in a senior legal/compliance leadership role.
• Solid understanding of export controls, defense sector regulations, and privacy laws (GDPR, etc.).
• Experience with IP management, licensing, and international regulatory frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to manage people and projects with integrity and strategic foresight.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with comfort working at C-level.
