DevOps Engineer

About The Role

We are seeking a motivated and skilled DevOps Engineer to support and enhance the daily operations of critical systems, including the National Lottery website, APIs, geolocation services, and content management systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth development, testing, and production environments while fostering collaboration with development teams and enhancing operational efficiency through automation.

What You’ll Do

Support AWS Infrastructure: Oversee and maintain critical systems, including:

Website: Ensure the daily operation and reliability of the National Lottery website.
Backend for Frontend (BFF) APIs: Support APIs that facilitate seamless communication between front-end interfaces and backend services.
Geolocation Services: Maintain and troubleshoot live geolocation services.
Content Management System (CMS): Manage updates and stability of Magnolia CMS and its AWS infrastructure.
Non-Production Environments: Maintain development, testing, and staging environments to ensure seamless operations.

Optimize Cloud Architecture: Automate cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform, and ensure scalable, resilient architectures on AWS.
Manage Build and Deployment Pipelines: Set up and optimize Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions.
Enhance Monitoring and Observability: Implement advanced monitoring solutions (e.g., AppDynamics, CloudWatch) for proactive issue detection and performance optimization.
Automate Repetitive Tasks: Streamline operational processes to reduce manual effort and enhance productivity.
Collaborate with Development Teams: Partner with developers throughout the software lifecycle to embed reliability and operational best practices into every stage.
Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues: Address incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to enhance system reliability and user experience.

Skills And Qualities We Appreciate

Cloud Expertise: Proficiency in AWS and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
CI/CD Knowledge: Experience managing CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitHub Actions.
Programming and Scripting: Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Java, with the ability to develop automation scripts and tooling.
Monitoring Tools: Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools like AppDynamics, CloudWatch, and log management platforms (e.g., Splunk, ELK stack).
Security Awareness: Understanding of DevSecOps practices and ensuring compliance with security standards.
Incident Management: Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues while conducting root cause analysis.
Team Collaboration: Strong teamwork skills, with experience working closely with developers and contributing to architectural decisions.
Mobile Support: Experience in configuring and troubleshooting iOS and Android apps is a plus.
Flexibility: Adaptability to provide out-of-hours support as needed.
Proficiency in written and spoken English
