About Clair
Clair is an AI-native assortment and demand planning platform for retail. We started from the category of fashion, and have quickly expanded to adjacent categories like outdoor, home decor, and pets. We support consumer brands and retailers with assortment planning, forecasting, and buying to help them sell more and waste less.
We started in early 2025 and have already come far: we’ve proven the accuracy of our forecasting model with paying customers, started generating solid ARR, and implemented our tool with some of the largest players in retail apparel in the Nordics. We’re converting new customers at an accelerating pace and need more hands on deck to keep growing.
We’ve raised funding from Lifeline Ventures and leading Nordic angels. Our team comes from high-performing environments across startups, industry, and academia — Imperial College London, BCG, Wolt, Slush, Leadership Team of Marimekko — and we’re looking to constantly raise the bar.
We work primarily in person from our office in Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮 However, we would still like to hear from you if you’re based outside Helsinki, provided you are able to spend approximately one week every month face-to-face in Helsinki. Please note this is not a role for someone working fully remotely from another country.
About the role
We’re looking for a driven and ambitious Software Engineer to help us build a product our customers love. You’re comfortable working full-stack, thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, and naturally take initiative and ownership.
You’ll get the most out of this role if the idea of joining an ambitious team of builders on a journey to discover what’s possible excites you more than simply getting a job.
You could be who we’re looking for if
- You’re curious, smart and hard-working — that’s what your colleagues will be.
- You have a bias towards action and you ship fast.
- You’re comfortable working full-stack and excel at quickly picking up new technologies. To give you a sense of the range of challenges you might tackle, you could be:
- Replacing or redesigning an authentication or authorization system to improve scalability, security, or flexibility.
- Refactoring core data models or APIs to support new workflows or more complex relationships between entities.
- Implementing intuitive, interactive UI features that streamline user workflows.
- Building real-time updates or collaborative functionality so multiple users can seamlessly work on shared data.
- You get excited about early stages of product building and are eager to leave your mark on a world-class AI product.
What would impress us even more?
- You’ve taken products from 0 to 1 before. Perhaps you’ve worked on new product development at a top-tier company, been an early employee at another startup, or built successful side projects.
- You have experience leading and delivering high-quality engineering projects while getting your own hands dirty, too.
What you’ll do
- You’ll be playing a crucial role in taking our product from its early iterations to a robust and scalable tool capable of serving first tens, then hundreds, of enterprise customers.
- We’re looking for people who want to grow with the company — taking ownership of key product initiatives, working with a customer-first mindset, and eventually leading teams or driving major product developments. You think like a senior from day one, building a strong product and, through it, an even stronger company.
- You work closely with our growing product team to build an AI-native alternative to legacy planning tools for one of the largest consumer industries globally.
Our tech stack
Below is our current tech stack. We’re early in our product development journey and looking for someone who is excited to contribute across the board, including the further development of our architecture, tooling, and ML infrastructure as we scale the product and the team.
- Frontend: TypeScript, React, Tailwind CSS, Shadcn, TanStack, Playwright
- Backend: Python, FastAPI
- AI: CatBoost (regression), CLIP (embedding), RTMDet (object detection), LLM APIs (feature engineering), Lambda.ai, Jupyter, W&B (tooling)
- Database: PostgreSQL, Alembic, SQLAlchemy
- Deployment and infra: Terraform, Docker, Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Identity Platform, Secret Manager, Analytics, Monitoring, Firebase)
- Dev: GitHub (incl. CI/CD with GitHub Actions), Cursor or any AI dev tools you need
What we offer in exchange
- A chance to build an AI-first product that provides clear customer value from the get go, and can grow very big
- High-impact role in an early team of ambitious builders, with an opportunity to grow with the company as far as your potential allows
- A chance to directly influence our culture and product
- Competitive salary and equity — you’ll own a piece of the pie
- The gear you need to do your best work
- Paid vacation
