Rate/Salary: A reasonable estimate of the current pay range for this position is $80.00 to $85.00 hourly on W2 hourly. Actual pay will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs, and will be set by your employer. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in base pay.
Job Title: Front End Developer
Location: Toronto, CA
Duration: 6+ month contract to Hire
Summary:
We are seeking a skilled JavaScript Developer with a solid understanding of HTTP request/response flow, client-server communication, and web architecture. The ideal candidate will have experience building scalable front-end and/or back-end applications using modern JavaScript frameworks, and be capable of diagnosing, optimizing, and implementing performance network interactions.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain web applications using JavaScript (Node.js, React, or similar frameworks).
- Build and optimize features with a deep understanding of HTTP methods, headers, status codes, and request lifecycle.
- Collaborate with backend teams to define RESTful APIs or GraphQL schemas and ensure efficient client-server communication.
- Analyze and troubleshoot HTTP-related issues such as latency, failed requests, caching problems, and CORS errors.
- Implement secure and efficient data transmission using proper HTTP practices, including authentication (OAuth, JWT), compression, and caching headers.
- Work closely with DevOps or infrastructure teams to monitor and improve API performance and reliability.
- Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+).
- Solid understanding of the HTTP protocol, including:
- Request/response lifecycle
- Methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, etc.)
- Status codes and headers
- Connection handling (keep-alive, pipelining)
- Cookies, sessions, and authentication flows
- Experience with front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, or Angular) and/or back-end (Node.js/Express.js).
- Experience working with REST APIs, GraphQL, or WebSockets.
- Familiarity with tools like Postman, curl, or browser DevTools for analyzing HTTP traffic.
- Understanding of browser and server caching mechanisms, CDNs, and content negotiation.
- Familiarity with cross-origin communication (CORS) and security best practices related to HTTP.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with API gateways, load balancers, and reverse proxies (e.g., NGINX).
- Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Understanding of TCP/IP, TLS/SSL, and DNS in context of web communication.
- Familiarity with performance profiling tools and APMs (New Relic, Datadog, etc.).
