About Us

We're a team of over 50 volunteers working across multiple disciplines, from linguistics to design, as well as business development, marketing, and product development. We are open and respectful, working remotely and asynchronously. Accountability is key for us, and so is teamwork.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Web Developer with expertise in both frontend and backend development, specifically in PHP and WordPress.

Qualifications

Frontend Skills:

• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with preferred knowledge of React.js and Vue.js for creating responsive and interactive designs.
• Experience with popular WordPress page builders and extensions such as Gutenberg Block, Elementor, Beaver Builder, or Divi.
• Strong understanding of SEO best practices for optimizing website performance and traffic.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks like Bootstrap or Tailwind CSS is a plus.

Backend Skills:

• Strong expertise in PHP and Node.js, especially with the Laravel framework.
• Experience with creating and managing WordPress themes and plugins.
• Knowledge of SQL-based databases, including database design and optimization.
• Familiarity with server-side performance optimization and database integration.

General Requirements:

• Proven experience in independently creating high-quality websites with WordPress.
• Understanding of industry standards for web development.
• Familiarity with web hosting and server management tools.
• Experience with version control systems like Git.

Responsibilities

• Attend team meetings regularly to discuss website design and functionality.
• Design and build website front-end interfaces and manage content.
• Maintain and optimize website architecture for performance and scalability.
• Develop and manage the back end of websites, including databases and server integration.
• Create custom WordPress themes and plugins as needed.
• Conduct performance tests, troubleshoot issues, and monitor live website performance.
• Collaborate with the design team to ensure visually appealing and user-friendly designs.

Several hours per week.
