Overview
We’re National Broadband Ireland and we’re delivering the largest telecommunications project that Ireland has ever seen. We’re designing, building and operating Ireland’s new, high-speed wholesale broadband network under the National Broadband Plan. Our aim is to radically transform the country’s broadband landscape through the delivery of quality, affordable high-speed broadband to all parts of Ireland where such services are not available commercially.
The NBI™ network using a combination of State subsidy and commercial investment will deliver high-speed broadband to over 1.1 million people and over 569,000 premises in Ireland. No matter how remote or rural, no town, village or community will be left behind. NBI will be responsible for the management of the new national broadband network for the next 25 years.
Key Objectives / Accountabilities:
NBI is looking for a Senior Release Dev Ops Engineer who wants to jump in head-first and help scale a mission-driven company experiencing rapid growth. The Senior Release DevOps Engineer reports to the Release and Change Manager, and works with technology solutions to design and implement automated build, version control and deployment of software components and containers in a variety of platforms and systems. Key to this role is the experience and ability to craft best practice solutions to all our automation needs, including developing deployment processes for software and infrastructure components in our systems.
The Senior Release DevOps Engineer supports a wider agile team to deliver change in support of large development programmes. This role is all about end-to-end automation and orchestration, working to create new systems and processes to automate release activity and reporting, and the role is suited to an experienced engineer looking to drive their own strategic vision on Continuous Integration and Delivery in a pure cloud context.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploying software and systems updates to different environments (dev, test, prod) using automation tools to track the tasks and outcomes
- Providing administrative support in AWS cloud accounts, including monitoring and alerting, defining roles and permissions, and advising on cost considerations and opportunities to reduce runtime cost where appropriate
- Owning key tools and services for managing DevOps activities and systems, including GIT, Ansible, Jenkins, CICD Release Orchestration and Deployment Automation tools, etc.
- Supporting colleagues who are developing and enhancing automated test frameworks and quality proofing systems
- Working with team colleagues and partners to develop automation solutions for AWS cloud infrastructure, including EC2, Elastic Load Balancing & EC2 Auto Scaling, Cognito, Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, VPC, RDS & Aurora, SQS, and CloudWatch
- Being mindful of the appropriate processes and security compliance in NBI environments as agreed with Information Security Requirements
- Performing maintenance requests in the environments as part of continuous delivery of new functionality and services
- Working with the Release Coordinator to develop release runbook sequence of events activities, ensuring deployment dependencies are being met for a successful outcome
- Working with the Release and Change Manager and the Operations Incident Manager in support of emergency or high priority unscheduled release and deployment tasks
- Attending POD meetings and represent the workload of the Release DevOps team in the delivery of planned incremental programme updates
- Adhering to and championing all IT policies, best practices and standards
Knowledge & Experience:
- This role would suit a highly experienced IT (operations or development) engineer looking for their next career development advancement. Specific telecoms sector experience is not required, but ample commercial IT experience is necessary in order to best serve your own and NBI’s requirements
- Certifications in Cloud and AWS infrastructure are pre-requisites for this role
- Experience working with JIRA for tracking your epics, tasks and assignments is beneficial
- Prior experience working with Digital.ai tools would be an advantage but is not essential
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with a broad range of people in a professional manner
- Enthusiasm, coupled with a desire to apply best practice and further advance your own high technical, organisational and analytical skills, meet deadlines and quality standards, and respond to changing priorities, whether working independently or in a team situation
- Designing systems and processes from scratch as a lead engineer
- Problem solving and collaborative competency with the ability to contribute effectively in solution design meetings and debates
- Nice to have: Knowledge of the ITIL Framework (Incident, Problem, Change, Release Management) would be beneficial
What We Offer
- A unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact national infrastructure project
- A collaborative, inclusive, and purpose-driven work environment
- Competitive compensation and benefits package
- Opportunities for professional development and career progression
