Salary: London: £75,674 - £93,025 (which may include an allowance of up to £17,351). National: £71,381 - £88,900 (which may include an allowance of up to £17,519).

Working pattern: Full time, part time, flexible working, job share.

Contract Type: Permanent.

The Role

We’re recruiting for a Head of SOC here at Justice Digital, to be part of our warm and collaborative Digital Infrastructure and Security Operations (DISO) team.

The role aligns to the Head of Security Operations position within the Government Security Profession Framework, and will be leading teams in the Monitoring, Response, Vulnerability Management and Cyber Risk specialisms.

We are looking for a temporary Head of SOC to lead the team delivering vital cyber protection and intelligence to the Ministry of Justice in its routine operation and through the next phase of its transformation which will culminate in an external maturity assessment in December 2025. The role is also a key member of the wider MOJ Cyber Security Profession.

As Head of SOC you will be required to provide strategic direction and build capability as we undertake the remainder of a significant Security Operations Transformation. You will also drive operational performance against agreed KPIs. The role will require you to lead a large team of security analysts (approx. 35) engaged in Protective Monitoring, Incident Handling and Threat Intelligence.

  • Please note that we are also recruiting for a G7 Deputy Head of SOC position, this additional position will be recruited for via the merit / near miss list from this campaign.*

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the SOC is operationally effective. You will be responsible for ensuring that the SOC identifies and manages threats and incidents effectively. You will develop and meet meaningful KPIs to support maintenance of the MOJs Cyber Security Posture.
  • Lead the MOJ Security Operations Centre (SOC) as it continues to undertake a significant people, processes and technology transformation. You will manage the ongoing change effectively bringing the team with you.
  • Develop the individual and collective capabilities of SOC personnel to ensure that they can exploit the technology and implement processes effectively to provide an assured level of operational capability.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that the SOC engages with its many stakeholders across the MOJ effectively. You will communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences providing Senior Leaders with a good understanding of SOC performance and cyber security trends.
  • You will be a key member of the Security Operations leadership team responsible for delivery of an Operating Model that will be scrutinised during an external maturity assessment.

  • Leadership. You will be a skilled and effective leader who is able to develop and maintain a team as it undertakes a significant transformation. You will have a strong ability to develop and implement strategy collaboratively.
  • Good understanding of Cyber Security Principles. You will have a good understanding of Security Operations and Cyber Security Principles. You will understand the SOC capability and how it can identify and mitigate cyber security risk to support the MOJ.
  • You will have a strong operational focus and will be able to ensure that the SOC meets its operational commitments – meeting and balancing cyber security and operational priorities effectively.
  • Collaborative. You will be comfortable with taking views from experts and accepting challenge and able to navigate and accommodate differing opinions whilst confident to take decisions when required.
  • Communication. You will be an effective communicator comfortable delivering information to a variety of internal and external audiences; you will be confident briefing senior leaders.

Willingness to be assessed against the requirements for SC clearance.

There may be an opportunity for the postholder to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) checks once in post, should this be deemed appropriate for the role.
