Are you a passionate UX/UI Designer looking for your next exciting opportunity? Our client, a respected government agency, is seeking a skilled professional to become part of their dynamic team located in Parramatta, New South Wales (hybrid work scenario). This is a 9 month role that may extend beyond the initial contract.
Role Purpose
The Mid-Level UX Designer plays a key role in designing and enhancing user-centred digital services within a critical digital platform. Working within a multidisciplinary Agile team, the role focuses on improving usability, accessibility, and experience consistency across the platform in alignment with NSW Government Digital Design Standards and WCAG accessibility guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and refine user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs for key portal features and enhancements.
- Conduct user research and usability testing to inform design decisions and validate solutions.
- Collaborate with service designers, product managers, developers, business analysts, and content designers to deliver effective, user-friendly digital services.
- Translate complex legislative and procedural requirements into intuitive user experiences.
- Advocate for human-centred design across internal and external stakeholder groups.
- Maintain consistency in design across services, aligning with design systems and NSW Government standards.
- Use data, user feedback, and behavioural analytics to iterate and improve digital products.
- Contribute to the design library and documentation to support scalable, reusable design patterns.
- Balancing user needs with policy, legislative, and technical constraints.
- Designing for a wide range of users, including the general public, state and federal government agencies, councils, developers, and planning professionals.
- Delivering consistent UX across multiple integrated systems and digital services.
- Working within tight timelines while maintaining design quality and accessibility compliance.
- 3-5 years of UI or UX design experience on digital platforms, preferably in government or large-scale service environments.
- Proficiency in UX tools such as Figma, Miro, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of user-centred design practices, usability heuristics, and WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards.
- Demonstrated experience conducting user research and usability testing.
- Solid understanding of responsive and mobile-first design principles.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with government portals, especially transactional or regulatory platforms.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery environments and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
- Knowledge of NSW planning or development processes is a plus.
- Exposure to service design or content strategy.
