Are you a freelance DevOps Engineer looking to shape the future of open-source cloud infrastructure?
Our client is a leading German cloud provider dedicated to delivering secure, sovereign, and high-performance cloud solutions. With multiple modern data centers located across Germany, they have developed an enterprise-grade open-source cloud platform.
They are now seeking a DevOps Engineer with OpenStack expertise to join their team on a freelance basis until July 2026. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, automating, and operating their OpenStack-based cloud platform. This will involve driving performance, scalability, and digital independence.
Project Scope
- Design and evolve the architecture of the OpenStack-based cloud platform to ensure scalability, performance, and long-term reliability
- Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines in GitLab and strengthen automation frameworks and best practices within the DevOps team
- Build and maintain infrastructure automation using Ansible, Git, and IaC principles
- Proactively monitor and optimize system performance, implementing recovery and resilience strategies
- Contribute to continuous improvements in deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence
- Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance platform capabilities and automation maturity
What You Bring
- Strong experience managing and administering Linux systems within production environments
- Hands-on expertise with OpenStack and its core components, with a strong understanding of how a cloud platform operates
- Proven experience with automation and IaC using Ansible, Git, and GitLab (experience with Kolla Ansible is a plus)
- Proficiency in Python or a comparable scripting language for automating complex tasks and developing internal tools
- Familiarity with networking, storage technologies, web servers, databases, and load balancers
- A proactive mindset with a passion for automation, reliability, and continuous improvement
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of solutions
