We’re Newsquest’s digital product team, working across a portfolio of regional news brands that collectively rank among the top 10 for UK news audience. Over 20 million people use our products every month. Our mission is to build products that serve these millions of readers and subscribers, whether through websites, apps, newsletters, or subscription platforms. We’re a cross-functional team of product managers, designers, developers, and analysts, collaborating closely with editorial, marketing, and commercial teams to deliver user-centred, data-informed experiences.
We’re looking for a Product Designer to join our growing team and help shape the design of our digital products. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves solving real user problems, creating intuitive interfaces, and working closely with product and engineering teams to deliver great experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design for impact: Create user-friendly, visually appealing designs for web, mobile, email, and subscription products.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to deliver user-centred solutions.
- Contribute to the design system: Use and help evolve our Figma-based component library and design guidelines.
- Champion usability and accessibility: Ensure designs meet high standards for usability, accessibility, and consistency.
- Support research and testing: Incorporate user feedback, A/B testing, and data insights into your design process.
- Balance speed and craft: Make smart trade-offs between polish and delivery without compromising user experience
We’re after a sharp, user-focused designer who’s ready to make a real impact. You’ll thrive here if you bring:
- A standout portfolio that shows smart, user-first thinking across digital products, clear purpose, and clean execution.
- Solid understanding of UX and UI principles, responsive design, and accessibility best practices.
- Figma fluency, plus experience working with design systems to keep things consistent and scalable.
- Confident communicator, able to explain your thinking and work smoothly with product, dev, and wider business teams.
- You are data-aware and have an understanding of front-end development concepts and how design translates into code.
- Prioritise attention to detail, with a sharp eye for layout, typography, and visual hierarchy.
- Comfort in agile teams, iterating fast and adapting to feedback without losing sight of the user.
- Proactive mindset, always looking to improve the experience and champion design thinking
- Proven experience in the media industry, ideally in publishing and a desire to help shape how local news thrives in a digital-first world.
