We're looking for a passionate Associate Data Scientist to join our dynamic team and drive the next wave of innovation in advanced analytics and AI. Our work spans the entire Woolworths business—from customer loyalty and personalisation to eCommerce, store operations, supply chain, ranging, and pricing.

What you'll do

What You Will Do

As an Associate Data Scientist, you'll work as part of a collaborative team to develop data-driven solutions that create real business value. This role offers excellent opportunities to develop your technical skills while working on meaningful projects. Your responsibilities will include: Implementing analytical solutions under guidance, including data extraction, manipulation, analysis, and validation using tools such as SQL and Python.

  • Applying foundational data science methods including creating model-ready features, identifying relevant variables for models, and understanding basic model evaluation metrics.
  • Writing clean, documented code following established conventions, conducting appropriate tests to validate results, and leveraging peer reviews to ensure quality.
  • Working with cloud platforms (GCP products such as BigQuery, Vertex AI, GCS) to deliver project components and solve routine technical problems.
  • Collaborating with team members to translate simple business questions into analytical approaches and identify the data required to complete analysis.
  • Contributing to broader team initiatives including participating in knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Communicating insights clearly through well-structured presentations, clear visualisations with proper labelling and descriptions, and accurate business updates.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for an enthusiastic, curious individual who is eager to grow their data science career and make an impact. The ideal candidate will have:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a data science, analytics, or related role.
  • Foundational technical skills including proficiency in at least one coding language relevant to data science (e.g., SQL, Python), with developing skills in another.
  • Basic understanding of statistical concepts and machine learning, with eagerness to learn and apply data science methods with support from senior team members.
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, mathematics, actuarial studies, statistics, physics, computer science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present ideas coherently and translate basic insights into simple narratives for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage your own time and priorities, take ownership of guided workstreams, and apply feedback constructively.
  • Collaborative mindset with a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to support team members in achieving shared goals.
