We are proud to be launching a new state-of-the-art technology facility in Dublin, Ireland. The Dublin-based team will play a critical role in our continued digital transformation and will function as a center of excellence for SiriusXM’s global Product and Technology organization.
SiriusXM’s new Dublin facility will comprise a workforce primarily focused on software development, automotive technology and engineering, adtech, data science, and analytics. Talent based in the new technology hub will be charged with developing and implementing best-in-class standards for high-quality, scalable software deliveries for SiriusXM’s streaming and in-vehicle audio entertainment platforms.
How You’ll Make An Impact
We are seeking an Associate Director of Software Engineering to lead the Playback Services engineering teams in Dublin. Playback Services is a mission-critical domain responsible for powering seamless, real-time audio playback experiences for tens of millions of SiriusXM and Pandora users.
In this role, you’ll lead services engineering teams building high-throughput, highly available, and scalable systems that support streaming, media access control, and playback telemetry. You will collaborate closely with leaders across science, platform, and product to define the future of our playback architecture. You’ll shape strategy, coach engineers and managers, and drive execution for one of SiriusXM’s most foundational services.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and scale high-performing backend engineering teams focused on playback.
- Own technical strategy and execution plans for the playback services org.
- Collaborate with global engineering, science and product leaders to align on vision, priorities, and delivery plans.
- Oversee the design, development, and operation of robust, scalable services optimized for low latency and high availability.
- Guide architecture decisions and technical designs for playback systems, ensuring alignment with long-term platform strategy.
- Champion operational excellence, observability, and production reliability across teams.
- Drive system-wide performance improvements through data, experimentation and benchmarking.
- Mentor and grow engineers, fostering technical and leadership growth.
- Cultivate a high-performing, inclusive engineering culture based on trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Champion professional development, career progression, and a strong feedback culture.
- Advocate for engineering best practices.
What You’ll Need
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a formal engineering leadership role.
- Proven success leading engineering teams delivering distributed, cloud-native systems at scale.
- Accountability and a sense of ownership that doesn’t end after the system is deployed to production.
- Deep experience building and operating low-latency, high-throughput backend services in production environments.
- Strong background in Scala, Kotlin, Java, or other modern JVM-based or functional languages.
- Expertise in AWS, infrastructure-as-code, and observability tooling.
- Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction and influence architecture across multiple teams or domains.
- Clear and effective communicator with a collaborative, empathetic leadership style.
