As a VP of the Data Science Org, you will lead the strategic vision and execution of advanced data science initiatives for a global organization. This role is pivotal in driving innovation, delivering impactful solutions, and fostering collaboration across a diverse, high-performing team. You will oversee the development and deployment of machine learning models, ensuring alignment with organizational goals while cultivating a culture of excellence and innovation.


Key Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership

  • Define and implement a forward-looking roadmap for AI and machine learning that aligns with the organization’s broader business objectives.
  • Spearhead research and development efforts to create innovative AI solutions that address complex challenges and enhance product offerings.


Operational Excellence

  • Establish best practices for model development, deployment, and monitoring within cloud-based production environments.
  • Scope projects effectively using advanced techniques such as classification methods and network analysis in collaboration with product teams.


Team Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and manage a global team of data scientists, fostering professional growth and ensuring optimal resource allocation.
  • Promote a cohesive team culture that encourages collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering, product management, and data teams to integrate machine learning models seamlessly into the organization’s technology ecosystem.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders across various functions, including leadership, sales, marketing, customer support, and external clients.


Innovation & Research

  • Stay at the forefront of emerging AI trends by exploring new technologies and methodologies to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Drive experimentation with cutting-edge approaches in deep learning, unsupervised learning, and network analysis.


Qualifications


Technical Expertise

  • Advanced degree in a technical field such as machine learning, computer science, statistics, or mathematics.
  • 15+ years of experience applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems at scale.
  • Significant expertise in text and multimedia classification projects, including training data acquisition, evaluation methodologies, and addressing challenges like dataset shift or extreme class imbalance.
  • Familiarity with modern deep-learning frameworks and unsupervised learning techniques.


Leadership & Management

  • 10+ years of experience managing high-performing teams (including managers), with a proven ability to develop talent and foster team cohesion.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex quantitative analyses clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.


Tools & Frameworks

  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, machine learning libraries/frameworks, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience with MLOps practices or comparable methodologies.


Soft Skills

  • Exceptional communication skills for engaging stakeholders across technical and non-technical domains.
  • Ability to align global teams under a unified vision while maintaining operational efficiency.


Preferred Competencies

  • Experience implementing Agile/Scrum methodologies within matrix organizations.
  • Familiarity with crowdsourcing platforms and quality control processes.
  • Strong balance of technical expertise with strategic business acumen.
