About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Android Engineer (Engineer 6) to join a dynamic, multi-platform app engagement team working on a large-scale, high-traffic B2C e-commerce platform. The goal of this project is to increase app engagement and weekly active users by enhancing the shopping experience to be more seamless, personalized, and conversion-driven.
You’ll play a key role in developing and optimizing Android features using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, while helping to address technical debt and contribute to architectural improvements (including a migration to Graph architecture).
This is an opportunity for a senior engineer who can step in quickly, operate independently, and drive technical excellence across the Android stack.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain advanced Android features and components.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Contribute to the team’s technical strategy and take ownership of solutions from design to deployment.
- Work on app engagement initiatives to improve user activity and overall app performance.
- Address and reduce technical debt; support architectural migration initiatives.
- Participate actively in technical discussions, demonstrating strong problem-solving and solution-oriented thinking.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of professional experience in Android development.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose (must-have).
- Experience with Coroutines and modern Android architecture principles.
- Knowledge of GraphQL is a plus.
- Proven background in e-commerce or other high-traffic B2C applications.
- Experience working directly for companies (not exclusively via agencies).
- Demonstrated ability to quickly onboard and deliver impact in existing projects.
- Excellent communication skills and flexibility to adapt to changing team or office arrangements.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking an engineer who doesn’t just write great code, but also:
- Thinks solution-first when faced with technical or project challenges.
- Can adapt to new team structures, project scopes, or office day changes.
- Has strong technical depth across the Android ecosystem and a passion for scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Has been working in the Netherlands for at least 2 years.
Project Context
This role is part of an App Engagement initiative, focused on increasing weekly active users and revenue through a more dynamic, consistent, and trustworthy shopping experience. The successful candidate will directly contribute to improving the app’s engagement, performance, and conversion metrics.
