Job Title: AI Automation Engineer (Data Products)
Job Type: Full-time 13-month Contract
Duration: Until December 2026 (with strong potential for extension)
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Remote (Preference for candidates in Mississauga or Montreal, QC)
Hourly Rate: $110/hr Inc. to $115/hr Inc.
Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM EST (Must be able to work with Eastern Time Zone)
Client Overview
Our client is embarking on a transformative journey to modernize and standardize its data ecosystem by creating a robust Data Product Foundation. This initiative aims to build standardized, context-rich data products enhanced with metadata and automation, empowering both human and AI consumption for analytics, reporting, and real-time decision-making.
Role Summary
The AI Automation Engineer will spearhead the design and implementation of automation solutions to streamline how our clients’ data products are conceived, built, and managed. This role focuses on applying agentic AI principles and modern frameworks (such as MCP) to orchestrate automation across the data product lifecycle, reducing manual intervention and enabling scalable, metadata-rich data products. The successful candidate will bring both architectural vision and hands-on technical expertise to operationalize AI-driven workflows that accelerate innovation across our clients’ Data Product Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation Design & Implementation: Analyze current workflows and implement automation strategies using AI models, MCP frameworks, and Microsoft Fabric.
- Workflow Orchestration: Develop intelligent agents or AI-driven workflows that automate multi-step data product creation, from requirements gathering to data set generation.
- Integration & Enablement: Integrate automation into existing data pipelines and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with lifecycle management best practices.
- Standardization & Reuse: Create templates, patterns, and reusable automation assets that standardize data product creation.
- Collaboration: Partner with data engineers, architects, and business teams to deliver scalable, production-ready automation.
- Operational Excellence: Implement monitoring, observability, and quality controls for all automated workflows.
- Innovation: Stay current on emerging frameworks, agentic AI, and large language model (LLM)-assisted development tools to continuously enhance automation capabilities.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in AI engineering, data automation, or data platform architecture.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, CI/CD pipelines, and Python-based automation.
- Familiarity with MCP framework and AI workflow orchestration using multiple agents.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for automation, scripting, and data manipulation.
- Solid understanding of DataOps, data governance, and metadata management concepts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working in hybrid or remote teams across multiple time zones.
- Experience with SAP BW integration (understanding how to connect to it) is an asset but not required.
