Role Description

This is a contract role for a Scrum Master/Tech Lead/Onsite-Coordinator, located in Culver City, CA with some work from home flexibility. The role involves leading sprint planning meetings, communicating effectively within the team and with stakeholders, creating and managing user stories, and providing technical leadership in software development projects. The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating onsite activities and ensuring smooth project delivery.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate experienced Scrum Master and hands-on Tech

Lead to provide technical guidance and ownership for a software

engineering team. The Scrum Master will be a coach, facilitator, and process

guardian, dedicated to fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and

continuous improvement. You will guide the team in its adoption and

execution of the Scrum framework, remove impediments, and ensure the

team is operating at its full potential to deliver high-quality software.As a

Tech Lead this role is a blend of mentorship, and technical strategy, ensuring

the team delivers technically excellent solutions that meet business

requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate Scrum Ceremonies: Lead and facilitate all Scrum events,

including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrums, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint

Retrospectives, ensuring they are positive, productive, and kept within

the timebox.

• Coach Agile Principles: Coach team members, the Product Owner, and

other stakeholders on Agile principles, Scrum values, and best

practices to maximize the value created by the team.

• Remove Impediments: Proactively identify, track, and help the team

remove impediments and blockers that hinder their progress. Escalate

issues to management when necessary.

• Foster Continuous Improvement: Encourage a culture of continuous

improvement (Kaizen) by guiding the team through effective

retrospectives and helping them implement actionable improvements.

• Protect the Team: Shield the team from external distractions,

interruptions, and scope creep, allowing them to remain focused on

the Sprint Goal.

• Promote Collaboration: Foster a collaborative and trusting environment

between the development team, the Product Owner, and stakeholders.

• Track & Radiate Information: Utilize Agile metrics (e.g., Burndown/

Burnup charts, Velocity, Cycle Time) to provide visibility into team

performance and progress. Radiate this information to the team and

stakeholders to drive data-informed decisions.

• Support the Product Owner: Assist the Product Owner with backlog

management, refinement, and ensuring that user stories are well-

defined and "Ready" for development.

• Mentorship & Coaching: Mentor and coach junior and mid-level

engineers, fostering their technical growth and helping them overcome

challenges.

• Technical Decision Making: Lead technical discussions, weigh trade-

offs, and make informed decisions to resolve technical debates and

challenges.

• Problem Solving: Act as the primary escalation point for complex

technical issues and lead the team in troubleshooting and debugging

efforts.

• Collaboration: Work closely with the Product Owner/Manager and

Scrum Master to translate business requirements into feasible

technical solutions and break down complex work into manageable

tasks.

• Innovation & Improvement: Stay current with emerging technologies

and industry trends. Lead proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and advocate for a

technical debt-management strategy.

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience as a dedicated Scrum Master for a software

development team with professional software development experience,

with at least 2+ years in a senior and Tech lead capacity.

• Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM I), or

equivalent certification.

• Deep understanding of the Scrum framework, Agile principles, and

values.

• Proven experience with Agile project management tools like Jira, Azure

DevOps, or similar.

• Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Strong ability to coach, mentor, and motivate teams.

• A servant-leader mindset with a passion for helping teams succeed.

• Proven experience designing and building scalable, distributed

systems and microservices architecture.

• Experience with cloud platforms [e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP] and

containerization [e.g., Docker, Kubernetes].

• Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and leading technical

projects.

• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipeline automation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with other Agile methodologies like Kanban or XP.

• Experience in a scaled Agile environment (SAFe, LeSS, etc.).

• Advanced certification (A-CSM, PSM II).

• A technical background or experience working closely with software
