At SUMIFAI, we’re building an AI app that helps millions of people around the world analyze, visualize, and understand their data instantly, without needing technical skills or coding. From raw Excel and Google Sheets to interactive geographical maps and instant business insights, SUMIFAI transforms static spreadsheets into living dashboards. Our AI assistant generates formulas, visualizations, and insights automatically, making data-driven decisions with clarity and confidence.

SUMIFAI is an AI startup in its MVP stage, pre-revenue, and currently fundraising to accelerate development and scale globally. This is a great opportunity to join early as a co-founder or core team member and shape the future of AI-driven data tools from the ground up.

As Co-Founding Data Engineer, you’ll:

Design and maintain the data backbone

• Architect and optimize AWS RDS (PostgreSQL) for scalable analytics
• Manage schema migrations with Drizzle ORM
• Define efficient data pipelines for uploads, transformations, and exports

Develop and scale AI-powered analysis pipelines

• Integrate LLM-based AI features (formula generation, visualization suggestion, data summarization)
• Implement RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) workflows to enhance contextual AI responses
• Develop API endpoints for AI query handling

Optimize cloud infrastructure

• Manage EC2, S3, IAM, and ALB configuration for security and scalability
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools
• Implement data caching and cost optimization strategies

Collaborate on product and UX decisions

• Work closely with the founder, front-end engineer, and UI designer
• Translate user workflows into technical solutions
• Drive product improvement through metrics and data feedback loops

Build for growth & fundraising readiness

• Prepare clean, documented code for investor demos and scale tests

Main Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript and experience building backends with Node.js
• Deep understanding of PostgreSQL (schema design, indexing, query optimization)
• Familiarity with ORM tools such as Drizzle ORM or Prisma
• Solid grasp of AWS architecture including EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and ALB
• Ability to design and maintain secure, scalable backend setups
• Experience with API design and integration (REST or GraphQL)
• Familiarity with AI/LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or Amazon Bedrock
• Capability to build data pipelines for uploading, transforming, and analyzing structured datasets
• Understanding of CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions) and version control with Git

Nice to Have Qualifications:

• Understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) or vector search (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS, pgvector)
• Familiarity with data visualization workflows or libraries (Chart.js, D3.js, or Plotly)
• Experience working with spreadsheet formats (Excel/CSV parsing, SheetJS, XLSX libraries)
• Knowledge of DevOps practices (monitoring, logging, scaling with ASG or ECS)
• Experience deploying full-stack apps with React / Next.js
• Understanding of AI prompt engineering and integrating large language models into apps
