About The Role

Motive Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Software Engineer, Android, to join our dynamic team in Toronto, Canada. In this role, you will be instrumental in building new telematics capabilities and features that serve as the data backbone powering Motive’s products. You will be responsible for defining and executing a technical vision, developing long-term product roadmaps, and leading cross-functional design discussions. This position requires an architecturally-minded leader who can articulate a compelling technical vision, drive innovative solutions, and mentor a team of talented engineers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for developing scalable and efficient Android-based systems, with a keen interest in automotive concepts and telematics technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 6+ years of experience in Software Engineering, specifically working on Android applications, systems, OS, and services
• Proven expertise in software architecture design and implementation
• Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring diverse engineering teams
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including embedded systems, backend, and product management
• Familiarity with automotive communication protocols such as CAN and J1939 is a plus
• Experience with continuous experimentation and learning in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Define and implement a comprehensive technology vision for telematics product features
• Develop and maintain a long-term product roadmap in collaboration with product teams
• Lead technical design discussions, ensuring alignment across multiple teams including embedded, backend, and product management
• Architect scalable and reliable Android-based telematics systems and services
• Mentor and guide a diverse team of engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing
• Drive innovation through continuous experimentation, optimization, and learning
• Ensure the security, performance, and quality of telematics solutions
• Collaborate with automotive and hardware teams to integrate telematics features with vehicle systems
