The City of Tamarac is seeking experienced candidates for a Network Administrator I position. Desired candidates will possess the following qualifications above the minimum requirements and may be given preference during the applicant screening process:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; supplemented by two or more years of progressively responsible experience in network administration, configuration, and support. Professional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or Microsoft certifications highly desired.

The Network Administrator I performs routine professional and technical activities pertaining to maintaining uninterrupted network functions and operations in a LAN/WAN and Microsoft environment. Work involves routine support, troubleshooting, and resolving issues with operation systems, application software, PC systems, telecommunications, and hardware and software.

Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment based on professional education and previous experience. Reports to the Network Infrastructure Manager.

Supports the City’s networking and computer goals; maintains and installs IT services and equipment including but not limited to, network, telecommunications, server, and storage infrastructure, and PCs, printers, and peripherals.

Assists with network infrastructure setup and configuration activities, which primarily consists of Cisco Systems switches and routers, and Palo Alto Networks firewalls; monitors wireless network equipment setup and configuration.

Assists with telecommunications infrastructure setup and configuration, including adding, removing, and updating users.

Assists server infrastructure, which primarily consists of physical servers / ESXi Hosts, and a VMware virtual environment, including setup, configuration, and overall operation of servers.

Assists with Active Directory infrastructure, including, but not limited to, the creation, deletion, and modification of user accounts and groups, sites, links, and the assignment and removal of permissions.

Monitors storage infrastructure, which primarily consists of a central Storage Area Network (SAN).

Monitors, completes, and closes service requests as they are entered in the IT Service Desk.

Creates new user accounts and provides access, downloads video footage as requested, maintaining and updating servers, troubleshooting network outages such as down switch, Wi-Fi ap, fiber run, and printers.

Troubleshoots, identifies, and resolves problems; ensures all issues are resolved and/or escalates complex issues to appropriate internal or external parties.

Assists with ensuring new projects have proper network equipment for current and future needs.

Assists, as requested, with the installation and support of user workstations, networking systems, and other equipment, including system software and hardware configurations.

Assists users with routine Central Square Technologies enterprise and application software issues, and with IBM iSeries job processing issues, re-routing jobs, or otherwise determining user processing problems.

Creates new user network and computer systems access and accounts; assigns users to required security groups and provides additional application security as needed for Central Square Technologies applications.

Deletes terminated employee computer systems access including user accounts, email accounts, Central Square Technologies application access and additional application security granted.

Adheres to all city and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.

Maintains quality communication and interaction with all city personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive city image.

Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city’s obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Pay and Bargaining Status

This is an exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act based on the executive and administrative exemptions and is paid by salary, issued bi-weekly. This position is excluded from the collective bargaining agreements between the City of Tamarac and the Federation of Public Employees and between the City of Tamarac and the Local 3080, Metro-Broward Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF.

Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field; supplemented by some directly related network administration; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.

Required Certifications and Licenses

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

National Incident Management System (NIMS) training is required (and sponsored) within six (6) months of employment according to job duties and responsibilities.

Network+ Certification, A+ Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of and ability to learn Cisco Systems networking and telecommunications hardware and software.

Knowledge of and ability to learn Palo Alto Networks hardware and software.

Knowledge of and ability to learn VMware virtualization technologies.

Knowledge of and ability to learn cybersecurity technologies.

Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.

Knowledge of and ability to learn Storage Area Networks.

Microsoft Technology Certification in Windows – Last 2 generations

Microsoft Technology Certification in Windows Server – Last 2 generations

Security+ Certification
