Full-timeEngineering, Information Technology

TL;DR

We help large enterprises cut energy costs and carbon emissions by steering their energy use in sync with market prices and renewable generation.

We’re hiring a Data Scientist to build and improve the models behind power and balancing market strategies, and to turn forecasts into executable trading logic in real-time.

You’ll work at the intersection of data, trading, and operations, interfacing with the right data sources and deploying your models into production alongside our rockstar engineering team.

About Companion.energy

Companion.energy connects the financial side of energy management (contracts, markets, risk) with the operational side (assets, processes, sites). We model complex energy contracts and flexible assets, forecast demand/production, and translate predictions into automated, minute‑by‑minute decisions that move megawatts and money. Our software is used by large B2B enterprises and energy players to lower OPEX, increase renewable usage, and manage risk.

Why Companion.energy?

Solve real problems

Our customers rely on us to connect, control and optimise their energy systems. You will work at the interface of markets and megawatts: forecasts and schedules that drive real financial outcomes.

Bridge software and the physical world

We’re not just building dashboards. We’re writing code that helps real assets react to market signals, every minute of the day.

Join early, help shape the future

Small team, big impact. You will influence our market models, data pipelines, and you will have direct trading impact.

A mission that matters

Helping companies adapt to a volatile energy landscape isn’t just smart business. It accelerates the energy transition.

What you will do

  • Identify, and interface with the right data sources.
  • Creating actionable trades in power and imbalance markets from your forecasts taking into account uncertainty
  • Report on P&L, risk exposure and model performance
  • Work with our engineering team to deploy models seamlessly and automate data ingestion.
  • Collaborate with DevOps to ensure real-time execution of trading signals, monitoring of live models and PnL

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience in time-series modeling and optimisation and low-latency systems.
  • Understanding of power markets.
  • Set up pipelines for maintaining of models, backtesting and put them into production
  • Analytical but pragmatic. You care about models that work in production, not just on paper.
  • Passion for the energy transition, and excitement to work in a fast-growing startup.

Bonus points

  • Operations research (MPC, MILP) and probabilistic forecasting.
  • Familiarity with real-time ML pipelines or monitoring (feature stores, model registries).
  • Experience with power and flexibility trading.
  • Familiar with common devops/infrastructure tools like Terraform

How we hire

Intro call → practical integration/build case → follow-up conversations with the team and founders.

We keep it simple and move fast.
