The role
We’re looking for a Data Scientist to join our Data and Analytics team at SSE Airtricity. This is a hands-on technical role, focused on building and deploying machine learning solutions and advanced analytics within our cloud platform (Databricks). You’ll apply modelling techniques to solve real-world problems across customer, commercial, financial, sales, and operational areas - ensuring insights and predictions directly support business outcomes.
You will
- Partner with product owners and stakeholders to scope opportunities where data science can drive value.
- Design, develop, validate, and deploy machine learning and statistical models in Python within Databricks.
- Build reproducible data science workflows, including data preparation, feature engineering, model training, and monitoring.
- Work closely with data professionals to ensure pipelines and model outputs are robust, automated, and production-ready, applying best practices in coding, ML Ops, version control, and data governance.
- Keep up to date with emerging modelling techniques and apply them where appropriate.
- A Master’s degree (or higher) in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Applied Science, Engineering, Mathematics etc) or equivalent.
- Extensive, demonstrable experience in a data science or applied analytics role, post qualification.
- Proven hands-on expertise with Python for statistical analysis, machine learning, and data manipulation.
- Solid working knowledge of SQL and the ability to design, implement, and productionise models.
- Experience working in cloud-based analytics platforms, ideally Databricks, with a high attention to detail and rigorous approach to data quality and model validation.
SSE has a bold ambition – to be a leading energy company in a net zero world. We're investing around £10 million a day in homegrown energy to help power a cleaner, more secure future. Our investment will see us build the world's largest offshore wind farm and transform the grid to deliver greener electricity to millions.
SSE Airtricity, supplies around 750,000 domestic and commercial gas, electricity and home energy services customers in the Republic and Northern Ireland. Around 40% of the electricity SSE Airtricity supplies to its customers on an island basis is generated from renewable sources - the greenest energy supply of any provider on the island and over three times the average on an all-island basis.
We have ambitious targets to help our customers on their journey to Net Zero by increasing the accessibility of green energy solutions through the provision of customer-driven propositions and we’re a partner to customers and stakeholders as they seek ways to respond to the climate crisis.
