Data Engineering Consultant

x2 days a week in office at this hub

About the Role & Company

Join a global technology consultancy with a reputation for delivering complex data and AI solutions across enterprise-scale platforms. The business partners with leading brands across finance, healthcare, retail, and more, helping clients transform raw data into strategic value through smart, scalable infrastructure.

As a Data Engineering Consultant, you'll sit within a highly skilled team responsible for designing and implementing modern data architectures—focusing on data pipelines, transformation layers, governance frameworks, and real-time streaming systems. You’ll work directly with cross-functional teams to help deliver production-grade data platforms from first principles.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and maintain cloud-based data pipelines and architecture for both streaming and batch use cases
  • Use platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, Spark, and Airflow to orchestrate ingestion, transformation, and delivery layers
  • Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and architects to ensure alignment of data design with business needs
  • Optimise data systems for scalability, observability, and cost-efficiency
  • Implement robust governance protocols, including RBAC, data lineage, and compliance practices (e.g., GDPR)
  • Apply automation to metadata handling, validation processes, and anomaly detection
  • Contribute to internal standards for CI/CD, code versioning, and engineering best practices
  • Guide and mentor more junior engineers, with opportunities to contribute to presales or client-facing solution design

What They’re Looking For

  • Proficient in Python, SQL, and at least one of Scala or Java
  • Comfortable working with cloud-native tools from AWS, Azure or GCP (e.g. Redshift, Synapse, BigQuery, Data Factory)
  • Hands-on experience with big data frameworks (e.g. Spark, Hadoop) and orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, dbt)
  • Familiar with modern data warehousing and modelling approaches, including relational, dimensional, and NoSQL
  • Understanding of containerisation, infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD workflows (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
  • A good grasp of secure data design, auditability, and access control principles
  • Previous consultancy or client-facing delivery experience is a plus
