3D Character Animator
Location: Montreal (Hybrid)

Job Summary
The 3D Character Animator will be responsible for creating expressive, believable character animations that elevate gameplay and narrative experiences. You’ll work closely with designers, modelers, and engineers to ensure animations feel fluid, responsive, and aligned with each project’s artistic vision. This is a hands-on role for an animator who combines strong technical proficiency with artistic flair and a passion for storytelling through movement.
Responsibilities
- Design and produce high-quality character animations for in-game, cinematic, and promotional content.
- Collaborate with designers and engineers to ensure seamless animation integration in Unity or Unreal Engine.
- Work with rigging artists to define animation-ready rigs and improve character performance.
- Implement animation systems and blend trees that enhance gameplay feel and responsiveness.
- Maintain consistency of animation style, timing, and quality across all assets.
- Participate in motion capture sessions and cleanup when required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Fine Arts, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating mastery of character animation principles (weight, timing, acting, appeal).
- Proficiency in Maya, Blender, or similar 3D animation tools.
- Experience working with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine.
- Solid understanding of rigging, skinning, and animation pipelines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred
- Experience animating for VR or mobile game titles.
- Familiarity with motion capture workflows and data cleanup.
- Basic scripting knowledge (Python, C#, or Blueprints).
- Understanding of real-time constraints and optimization techniques for performance.
