Project Engineering Manager – Substation (Electrical)
Job Title: Project Engineering Manager – Substation (Electrical)
Business Unit: EDRC (Substation)
Reports To: Head – Engineering
Reportees: Design Lead (Primary), Design Lead (Secondary), Vendor Engineering Lead
Location: Hyderabad
Eligibility: Only candidates currently based in India will be considered.
(Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an in-person interview in Hyderabad. Travel expenses will be reimbursed for candidates within India.)
Educational Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering
 
Experience
- Minimum 12 years of experience in Substation Design & Engineering
 - Must have strong exposure to GIS / AIS Substation Projects up to 765kV
 - Proven experience in leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams and executing multiple projects simultaneously
 
Position Objective / Purpose
The Project Engineering Manager (PEM) will be responsible for leading and managing all engineering activities related to Substation projects within the EDRC (Substation) business unit.
The role ensures that project engineering deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
The PEM will drive optimization, standardization, and digitalization in design and execution while ensuring compliance with contractual and technical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the Project Planning Manager to ensure engineering deliverables align with project schedules (L2 level).
 - Conduct regular review meetings to track progress, resolve issues, and maintain adherence to timelines.
 - Review and approve designs, calculations, and drawings prior to client submission.
 - Lead and manage a team comprising Design Leads, Design Engineers, and Draughtspersons.
 - Ensure effective work allocation and man-hour management for the project.
 - Coordinate inter-discipline reviews between Electrical, Civil, Structural, MEP, and Instrumentation teams.
 - Review vendor evaluations, technical documents, and manufacturing clearances.
 - Provide technical support to the Site Execution Team, including issue resolution and design clarifications.
 - Support SCM in procurement decisions, vendor finalization, and issue resolution.
 - Oversee Bill of Materials (BOM) and BOQ preparation, ensuring accuracy and optimization.
 - Drive BIM implementation and ensure digital tools are utilized effectively in projects.
 - Extend support for pre-bid engineering, technical clarifications, and contractual submissions.
 - Lead initiatives for process improvement, standardization, and team skill development.
 - Monitor and manage quality, productivity, and cost optimization across the engineering function.
 
Technical Expertise Required
- Strong technical foundation in Primary & Secondary Engineering for Substations (up to 765kV).
 - Expertise in design and selection of Power Transformers, Reactors, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Instrument Transformers, etc.
 - Proficiency in Substation Design including:
 - Earthing, Lighting, Lightning Protection, Cabling, and Layout Engineering
 - Control & Protection Schemes, Wiring Diagrams, SCADA, and Control Systems
 - Familiarity with Civil, Structural, MEP, and Instrumentation interfaces.
 - Understanding of vendor market conditions, material specifications, and engineering contracts.
 - Strong grasp of national and international codes and standards (IS, IEC, IEEE, etc.).
 - Experience in multi-geography project execution and client interactions.
 
Software Proficiency
- Essential: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
 - Desirable: ETAP, PSCAD, CYMGRD, and Project Planning Tools (Primavera / MS Project)
