The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Risk & Compliance Directorate (GR&C-RM) - Group Financial Risk Department (GFIN) - ALM and Market Risk Division (ALM) - Market Risk and Pricing Control Unit (MRC), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026)

Objective of the traineeship

Within the Asset and Liability Management (ALM) team of the Bank, you will play a supportive role in enhancing the team's reporting and analytical capabilities. Your work will focus on the development, documentation, and implementation of financial risk policies, as well as the models and methodologies used to assess and manage key risks such as interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and funding risk. You will assist in preparing regular and ad-hoc reports that inform strategic decision-making, contribute to the refinement of risk measurement tools, and help ensure compliance with internal guidelines and regulatory standards. This traineeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in financial risk management within a multilateral development bank, while deepening your understanding of how ALM contributes to the institution’s financial stability and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

Your main tasks will be:

  • Centralize the execution of regular operational reporting in the areas of market risk;
  • Closely follow latest market and best banking practice evolutions on relevant subjects impacting the division;
  • Assist in preparing and improving reports on financial risks (e.g. interest rate, liquidity, funding).
  • Support the review and update of financial risk policies and related documentation.
  • Help test and document models and methodologies used in ALM.
  • Contribute to data analysis and ensure accuracy in reporting processes.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree preferably in mathematics, economics, finance or another quantitative subject;
  • Understanding of financial risk concepts, especially interest rate and liquidity risk.
  • Analytical and quantitative skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
