The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Risk & Compliance Directorate (GR&C-RM) - Regulation & EIB Group Risk Department (GREG) - EIB Group Internal Modelling Division (IM) - Model Maintenance & Monitoring Unit (MMU), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March 2026)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Objective of the traineeship

Role

The primary role of the successful candidate is to provide support towards enhancing the model monitoring framework to cover recent model changes:

  • The New rating models for Corporates, Financial Institutions, Public Sector Entities,
  • The New PD masterscale
  • The New Public LGD model
  • The extension of LGD models for EU-CRG into the non-EU CRG segments.

More specifically, you will work under the guidance of her/his supervisor in collaboration with other members of the Unit, providing support the monitoring framework enhancements in the areas of data collection, manipulation, cleaning, statistical analysis, code implementation and report generation plus detailed documentation of these tasks.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the senior colleague, you will support and collaborate with other colleagues of the unit and contribute to the following activities:

  • Coding of Python scripts for data collection, manipulation, statistical analysis and automatized report generation
  • Migration of existing R, SAS and VBA scripts to Python
  • Preparation of reports and presentations in the areas of model performance testing and oversight
  • Support of drafting solution designs
  • Documentation of the results, the analyses and the different data collection/cleaning steps such that a third party may replicate the exercise

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Physics, Economics or Finance.
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts and credit risk modelling would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL. Knowledge of R, SAS, and VBA would be considered an asset.
  • Statistical analysis of data (statistical testing, (linear) regression analysis, model selection, data mining, graphical presentation of data)
  • Good knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
