AI/ML Specialist (Biopharma – Data Science & Research) – Freelance

We are seeking an AI/ML Specialist to join one of our customers in the biopharmaceutical sector based in Ghent for a long-term freelance mission. The consultant will support initiatives within the company’s R&D and clinical research departments, developing and implementing machine learning models to improve scientific discovery and operational efficiency.

This position sits within a data science team working at the intersection of biology, technology, and analytics. The consultant will collaborate with data engineers, bioinformaticians, and researchers to transform biomedical datasets into insights that accelerate the development of antibody-based therapies.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, and validate AI and machine learning models for research and clinical data use cases
• Build and optimize scalable data pipelines for structured and unstructured biomedical data
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify AI-driven opportunities and proof-of-concept initiatives
• Ensure data integrity, reproducibility, and compliance with scientific and regulatory standards
• Support model deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement in collaboration with IT and R&D teams

Profile

• 4+ years of experience in AI/ML within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry
• Strong proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and biomedical data (omics, clinical, lab)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across scientific and technical teams

LOCATION: Ghent (hybrid – 2 days/week on-site)
