As Senior Backend Engineer at Funda, you design, build and scale systems that help millions of potential house buyers and real estate agents every day. You work at the interface of technology, architecture and product development – and you have a voice that is listened to.


Your job in a nutshell

You are a technical heavyweight within Funda’s backend domain. You design scalable systems, improve the technical foundations of our platform and work on features that directly impact millions of users.


You have a fixed product team, but you also work across teams: you bring people, teams and ideas together to move us forward technically. With modern technology such as .NET 8, Kubernetes, Azure, event-driven architecture and Terraform, you ensure that our systems remain smart, scalable and future-ready.

What you will do

  • Give direction to your team according to our lighthouse architecture and contribute to its further development.
  • Design and optimise critical systems that require high levels of performance and reliability.
  • Solve complex problems around scalability, data streams or systems integration.
  • Together with product managers and designers, ensure that the technical decisions align with the product vision.
  • Share knowledge and coach medior and junior engineers, and contribute to Funda's learning culture.
  • Work together with other senior and staff engineers to further develop Funda’s technical strategy.

Your team

At Funda, various scrum teams work on different parts of our platform: from improving the search experience to renewing the system with which estate real agents manage their properties.


We are currently recruiting for various teams. During the recruitment process, we will look together with you at where your knowledge, interests and ambitions would be best placed.


Whichever team you end up in, you will always work with a product manager, UX designer and various frontend and backend engineers on products that matter. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will also work a lot with our staff engineers such as Aleix: ‘My role as a Staff Engineer is to build a platform that lets you develop boldly, ship confidently, and sleep peacefully. Your job is to break it in all the best ways – to challenge assumptions, spot the cracks, and help us build something truly great together.’

  • You lead and coach colleagues by sharing knowledge and introducing best practices.
  • You feel responsible for the quality and performance of our backend systems.
  • You're currently living in the Netherlands and speak fluent English (Dutch is a plus).
  • And you have enough experience to justifiably call yourself senior level.

  • A salary between € 5.814,58 and € 6.486,34 per month, based on a 40 hours per week contract
  • Annual bonus of up to 1.5 times your monthly salary
  • Hybrid working: minimum 40% in the office

  • Working hours (32/36/40 per week) are negotiable
  • 60% pension coverage
