The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Projects Directorate (PJ) - Innovation & Competitiveness Department (INCO) - Innovative Supply Chain & Process Industries Division (SCPI) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026)
(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Objective of the traineeship
Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) are those materials that are considered crucial in the digital and green transitions, they have both a high economic importance for the European Union and a supply risk due to their scarcity and/or concentration from single sources. You will support the Bank’s internal team in consolidating knowledge on the topic of Critical Raw Materials, in particular by providing background research on market, supply chain and technology trends as well as analysing the Bank’s the investment potential of future projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare internal presentations of the outlook and the role of the Bank in the financing of the Critical Raw Materials (CRM) projects.
- Perform research on strategic CRM projects (e.g. extraction, processing, recycling and substitution).
- Prepare concise summaries on specific topics in CRM technologies and projects from internal and external sources.
- Review and benchmark previous projects financed by the Bank.
- You will work in collaboration with your tutor but should equally be capable of assuming initiatives and effectively managing your own workload.
- Final year of studies or University Degree in Economics / Geology / Mineral processing / Engineering / Materials Science / Market Research or related fields.
- Genuine affinity with Critical Raw Materials and related fields.
- Previous work experience in the Critical Raw Materials topic is considered as an advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. In particular, writing a concise summary of the lengthy reports/studies
- Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular, PowerPoint and Excel)
