The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Finance Directorate (FI) - Treasury Department (TRES) - Financial Engineering and Advisory Services Division (FEAS) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March 2026)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Objective of the traineeship

To Help Close The Following Recommendations

  • R-5852-32 Quantification and monitoring of methodological assumptions made in the yield curve framework.
  • R-8553-8 Add the stakeholders DER and MDM- in the FEAS market instrument sign-off.
  • R-6456-16 Model Performance Monitoring: Unit and regression tests.
  • R-5852-27 Clarify convexity adjustment calculation and develop capabilities to calculate convexity adjustment on individual loan level.
  • R-6456-9 Model performance monitoring: User instruction of input control.

Responsibilities

You will participate in the completion of the following tasks:

  • Closing of the recommendations related to model monitoring: FEAS maintains a few tier-1 core models which require annual periodic performance monitoring. You will be closing the recommendation related to the following monitoring tasks and document them.
  • Curve benchmarking: curves used for loan valuation have to be periodically benchmarked against market standards such as Reuters or Bloomberg. The task to be carried out seems to be lacking here.
  • Periodic review of market instrument conventions: this would involve the automation of convention retrieval from the Golden Source and their comparison with the existing set of conventions to assess the changes and their causes.
  • New market data: compare existing set of calibration instruments with those from the previous year, identify what has changed and why.
  • Review and update the set of market instruments used for calibration.
  • Automation of convention retrieval from Golden Source for the new instruments.
  • Calculation of convexity adjustments given a theoretical framework, contribute to the implementation of convexity adjustments at deal level.
  • Quantification of methodological assumptions in the yield curve framework: given a theoretical framework, perform the tests to estimate the impact of various assumptions within the loan pricing methodology.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

You should have the following skills:

  • Quantitative analyst profile: Final year of studies or University degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, data science, computer science, quantitative finance.
  • Programming skills (mainly Python language).
  • Finance knowledge will be a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
