The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS) - Public Sector Department (PS) - Adriatic Sea and Malta Division (4-MA&M) at its EIB Local office in Rome, Italy: TRAINEE
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026)

Objective of the traineeship
This traineeship focuses on supporting the development and implementation of loan projects in Italy and Malta, particularly in sectors such as public services, water, energy, transport, and infrastructure. You would assist in identifying potential investment opportunities and help follow through with the necessary steps to execute those projects, including coordination, documentation, and monitoring. The role combines analytical and operational tasks to contribute to impactful financing in these regions.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of Division and Heads of Unit, you will actively participate in the Division’s core activities with senior officers. Your main tasks will be:
- Support financial and risk analysis of borrowers to assess their creditworthiness and the viability of proposed projects.
- Assist in preparing and updating marketing materials used during client meetings and public events, ensuring they are accurate and engaging.
- Conduct research on topics relevant to the Division’s activities, contributing insights that support strategic decisions.
- Enhance and maintain datasets related to clients and sectors, helping improve the Division’s understanding of market trends and opportunities.
- Final year of studies or University degree preferably in Business Administration or Finance.
- A first existing work experience in the field of financial analysis will be considered as an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills, especially in financial and risk assessment would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with data research and management tools.
- Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Excel and PowerPoint).
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French. Knowledge of Italian would be an advantage
