Job Title: Scrum Master / Project Manager (with Data Engineering Background)

Location: Remote

Duration: 1 Year Contract

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Scrum Master / Project Manager with a strong background in Data Engineering to lead and support our data engineering teams. The ideal candidate is someone who started their career as a Data Engineer (or has strong hands-on data experience) and transitioned into a Scrum Master or Project Manager role. You will bridge the gap between technical and business stakeholders, ensuring seamless delivery of data-driven projects while also enabling agile best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as Scrum Master / Project Manager for one or more data engineering squads, facilitating agile ceremonies, removing impediments, and driving delivery excellence.

Collaborate closely with data engineers, data architects, and analysts to understand technical requirements and ensure alignment with business goals.

Translate complex data engineering concepts into actionable plans for stakeholders.

Manage and track project deliverables, timelines, and dependencies using agile tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally).

Drive continuous improvement by coaching teams on Agile/Scrum principles and best practices.

Coordinate with product owners, business analysts, and data engineering leadership to prioritize backlogs.

Provide technical oversight and guidance when necessary, leveraging your hands-on data engineering background (ETL pipelines, data modeling, cloud platforms, SQL, etc.).

Ensure project risks, issues, and dependencies are identified, tracked, and mitigated.

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering or Data-related roles (ETL, data pipelines, cloud data platforms, SQL, big data technologies).

2–4 years of experience as a Scrum Master / Project Manager in agile environments, preferably working with data engineering teams.

Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and project management methodologies.

Hands-on experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience in managing end-to-end data projects (data ingestion, processing, storage, and analytics).

Nice to Have:

Certified Scrum Master (CSM), PMI-ACP, or PMP certification.

Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern data technologies (Spark, Databricks, Snowflake, Kafka, etc.).

Prior experience in data migration, data governance, or data warehousing projects.

Experience working in distributed, remote-first teams.
