Wireless Communication Engineer (m/f/d) – Defense Radar Systems
Location: Erlangen, Germany, onsite
Wolf Radar operates at the intersection of a new era of security challenges and the existential need to secure European technological sovereignty.
To tackle this challenge, we are actively developing and deploying cutting-edge radar and sensor systems that are resilient, high-performance, and ready for mass production for use in defense.
We are looking for a driven Wireless Communication Engineer to secure the critical data links for our next-generation defense radar platforms. Our mission is clear: We build radar technology to protect what matters most: human lives, critical assets, and the integrity of democratic societies. Join us to engineer the endurance and precision into the physical structure of our technology.
Your Core Mission in the Engineering Team
As a Wireless Communication Engineer, you will be the core expert in creating robust, high-speed, and secure wireless data links for our advanced platforms.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Advanced DSP Algorithm Design: Design, optimize, and implement complex digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for features such as adaptive equalization, channel coding, synchronization, and advanced interference mitigation within the modem and baseband processing chain.
- PHY/MAC Layer Development: Develop, model, and implement Physical (PHY) and Media Access Control (MAC) layer protocols in embedded C/C++ or VHDL/Verilog for secure, high-throughput, and LPI/LPD operations on custom platforms (e.g., FPGAs/SDRs).
- System Modeling & Simulation: Utilize tools like MATLAB/Simulink or Python to build high-fidelity models of the entire wireless link, performing extensive simulation and analysis (e.g., link budgets, channel estimation, error rate) to validate algorithmic performance before hardware deployment.
- Software Implementation & Integration: Translate verified DSP algorithms into optimized, high-performance embedded code, integrating them with existing platform software and ensuring seamless data flow between the transceiver and the core processing unit.
- Testing & Validation: Conduct rigorous Over-the-Air (OTA) testing and field trials, focusing on the performance of implemented protocols and algorithms under challenging real-world conditions (e.g., jamming, high mobility, multipath fading).
Your Profile (Soft Skills, Education & Experience)
- Academic Excellence: You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communication Systems, with a strong focus on Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and/or Information Theory.
- Hands-on Mentality: You possess a strong practical and problem-solving mindset, capable of quickly translating abstract algorithms into robust, functional software.
- Technical Fluency: You are proficient with MATLAB/Simulink and Python for modeling, and possess expert skills in C/C++ for embedded development. Experience with FPGA/VHDL is a strong plus.
- Domain Interest (Strong Plus): Deep experience or a strong interest in Software Defined Radios (SDR), cognitive radio, secure military data links, advanced error correction codes, or Electronic Warfare (EW) is highly valued.
- Collaboration & Communication: You are a proactive, results-oriented team player with strong communication skills (Fluent English is mandatory) for seamless collaboration with hardware and system architects.
What We Offer
- Pioneering Technology: Work on mission-critical, cutting-edge technology in the demanding field of advanced radar systems.
- Impact: High level of responsibility with the opportunity to see your models deployed in real-world, high-stakes systems.
- Culture: A collaborative, fast-paced, and highly technical engineering culture with flat hierarchies.
- Culture & Team: A young and dynamic team in a collaborative, fast-paced, and highly technical engineering culture with flat hierarchies.
- Attractive Total Package (Benefits): 30 days of paid vacation, support for training in areas of your choice, and a Job-Ticket (public transport subsidy), and many more.
