Database Reliability Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a Database Reliability Engineer to ensure optimal availability, performance, and resiliency of database products managed by Hosting Services. You will apply software engineering principles to operational challenges, drive automation, and enhance reliability through proactive monitoring, performance optimization, and process improvement.

Role: Database Reliability Engineer

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

Work Model: Hybrid (3 days Onsite per week)

Hiring Mode: Contract

Duration: 6months (extension anticipated)

Experience Required

12+ years of total IT experience

Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with RDBMS / NoSQL databases in hybrid or cloud infrastructure

Mandatory Skills

Oracle and PostgreSQL

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee database reliability with a focus on availability, latency, performance, efficiency, and capacity planning.
• Automate manual tasks (TOIL) to increase efficiency, improve customer experience, and reduce mean time to recovery (MTTR).
• Engineer operational improvements, such as predictive monitoring, auto-scaling, and self-healing solutions.
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews to drive reliability enhancements.
• Analyze performance metrics to identify and implement service improvement opportunities.
• Ensure quality, security, and compliance of solutions by applying digital and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate in agile, cross-functional teams and contribute to continuous process improvements.
• Share knowledge, mentor peers, and actively participate in building a strong engineering culture.

Technical Skills

Databases: Strong expertise in Oracle and PostgreSQL — administration, provisioning, backup, replication, HA/DR, and performance tuning.

Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with Azure Databases (preferred) and a strong understanding of cloud computing fundamentals.

SRE Tools: Experience in observability, alerting, and configuration management.

Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Bash.

DevOps & CI/CD: Knowledge of Git, GitLab, and build/release pipelines.

Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform, ARM templates, or CloudFormation.

Cloud Automation: Familiar with Azure Automation, Azure Functions, or equivalent tools.

Strong communication, collaboration, and analytical skills.

Self-driven and proactive professional with minimal supervision.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred).
