About This Role:
Role Purpose and Context
eir is one of lreland’s largest Telecommunications Providers and is progressing a new initiative to migrate computing workloads to a flexible open-source platform based on Openstack & Kubernetes.
As a result, a role is available for a Systems Engineer with Linux experience to assist in the design, development, and maintenance of this platform.
The Systems Engineer will work collaboratively with internal teams through development, deployment, and operation of new microservice-based services, as well as the migration of other services compatible with the platform. You will also be part of the team responsible for continuing design, development, and maintenance of the environment itself.
The ideal candidate should have a broad range of hands-on technical skills with strong design and implementation skills, and at least one successfully completed design/build project.
Expectations From The Role:
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of the infrastructure stack
- Hardware specification and maintenance
- Ensuring that existing software and services are updated and patched as required
- Help improve our metrics and logs gathering capabilities
- Document and refine internal policies and procedures
- Automate as many policies and procedures as possible
- Working with development and network teams to troubleshoot issues.
- Some on-call duties as required
Knowledge And Experience Requirements
- Three years or more experience with Linux/Unix Administration
- Three years or more experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash
- One year or more experience with deploying, administrating or configuring Kubernetes deployed services
- One year or more experience with deploying, administering one or more Openstack clusters
- Strong Networking
- One years or more experience with version control technologies such as Git or SVN
- Strong communication skills: verbal and/or written
- Experience building and operating online services and fault-tolerant distributed systems
- Familiarity with a wide range of open-source technologies
- Solid analytical, conceptual and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in a public-facing always-available environment
- Familiarity with Networked and Software defined storage technologies -- NFS, RAID, Ceph
- Strong experience with Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or CentOS
- One year or more experience with automation tooling such as Ansible, Chef or Jenkins
- Experience with OVirt from a virtualisation owner/provider perspective
- Experience with Gluster from a storage owner/provider perspective
- Experience with debugging hardware issues
- Experience with on-premises deployed infrastructure
- Some familiarity with Agile and Continuous Delivery methodologies
- Strong experience with SQL and DBA on open-source databases
- Some experience with Monitoring Systems such as Prometheus, Alertmanager
- Some experience with Visualisation tools such as Grafana
- Some experience with Juju a plus
Additional
- On-call will be a requirement of this role
- This is a Hybrid role, 3 days a week in the office (Monday, Tuesday and Friday currently), this is not flexible unfortunately.
