This Federal Government department plays a pivotal role in shaping Australia's international presence and influence. With a strong focus on multilateral diplomacy, global cooperation, and international careers, the team is expanding to deliver a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing Australia's engagement with the multilateral system.

Your new role
As a Strategic Project Officer, you will be instrumental in developing and delivering a project that strengthens support for Australians working in or aspiring to work within multilateral organisations. Under the guidance of the Director, you will:
  • Design and implement a comprehensive project plan to advance strategic engagement and career development initiatives.
  • Collaborate on defining project scope, objectives, and key deliverables to ensure alignment with organisational goals.
  • Evaluate current resources and tools, identify gaps, and propose actionable, fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, overseas posts, third-party providers, and representatives from multilateral organisations.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks through strategic planning and continuous monitoring.
  • Develop high-quality documentation, including briefs, reports, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and user guides.
  • Support contract negotiations and management in partnership with corporate teams and relevant government agencies.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of corporate records and contribute to broader team objectives as required.

What you'll need to succeed
You'll bring strong project management skills, stakeholder engagement experience, and a strategic mindset. Your ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and deliver high-quality outputs will be key to your success. Experience in international relations, government, or multilateral environments will be highly regarded.

Required skills
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality projects within set timeframes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in managing competing priorities and working effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledgeable in government procurement procedures and contract management.
  • Sound understanding of multilateral affairs and Australia's foreign policy objectives.
  • Collaborative team player with experience engaging internal and external stakeholders.

This position is only open to Australian Citizens and you must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Government Security Clearance (NV1, NV2 or TSPV) candidates must also be willing to work from the Canberra Department Office in a full time capacity.
