About the Role
We are seeking a qualified Electrical Protection Engineer (Level 2) to join our client’s substation engineering team. You will be responsible for the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of advanced protection systems that safeguard high-voltage networks and ensure reliable power delivery.
This position offers an excellent path for career progression towards Level 3 authorisation within a leading power engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, test, and commission advanced protection relays (Siemens SIPROTEC, ABB Relion, SEL, Schneider MiCOM, or equivalent).
- Perform relay coordination studies, fault analysis, and protection settings calculations.
- Prepare and review schematics, SLDs, and logic diagrams for substation protection systems.
- Carry out secondary injection, end-to-end, and functional tests using Omicron or Megger test sets.
- Support energisation and commissioning of substations and related HV assets.
- Ensure compliance with IEC 61850, project protection philosophies, and client specifications.
Requirements
- Level 2 authorisation in protection engineering (mandatory).
- Eligible for Level 3 authorisation or progression pathway.
- Advanced configuration certification with at least two approved relay manufacturers (e.g. Siemens, ABB, SEL, Schneider).
- Strong background in electrical protection design, testing, and commissioning.
- Experience with HV substation projects (132 kV and above) preferred.
- Excellent analytical and fault-diagnosis skills.
