Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic full-stack Laravel Developer to join our small team, which develops B2B portals and their underlying business logic, supporting schools and fleets to reduce mobile device distractions when it matters.
As an experienced Laravel Developer, you will have created and/or maintained complex CMS solutions, ensuring quality, security, and usability. You will have a solid understanding of best practices, testing, and experience in balancing the need for shipping code fast and maintaining high quality.
We are actively migrating our architecture toward Go microservices, and this role offers a clear growth path into Go development. Initially, the position will be primarily Laravel-focused as we continue to support and enhance our existing platform, but you'll have increasing opportunities to work with Go as our migration progresses. We're looking for someone who is either already working with Go in a professional capacity or has meaningful side-project experience and is eager to grow their expertise in production systems.
This is a great opportunity to join an early-stage company, help define its future, and expand your technical skillset into modern backend development with Go.
Responsibilities
- Creating and maintaining secure functional code in the Laravel stack
- Working with two other full-stack developers and reporting to the CTO
- Ensuring performance, scalability, and maintainability
- Getting stuck in with all stages of the software development lifecycle
- Contributing to our ongoing architectural migration to Go microservices
- Helping with the selection of technologies and processes around our products
Must Have Experience
- Great communication skills
- 3+ years of hands-on Laravel framework experience (versions 8+)
- Modern PHP 8
- Unit and feature testing, preferably PHPUnit, Pest, and Laravel Dusk
- Strong proficiency with MySQL/PostgreSQL database design
- Creating and documenting RESTful APIs
- Working in multi-developer teams
- Experience with version control systems (git)
- Some exposure to Go (either professional experience or side-project work)
Nice to Haves
- Professional Go development experience, particularly with microservices
- Experience with gRPC and protocol buffers
- Experience with our tool stack: Docker, GitHub, AWS, Jira, Slack
- Experience deploying apps in AWS (we use ECS)
- Experience working with full-stack JS frameworks such as Sveltekit, Next JS, Angular etc
Benefits
- A competitive salary, based on experience
- Potential for stock options as an early team member
- 25 days of annual leave, excluding bank holidays
- A company device (MacBook Pro 14", or equivalent)
- Remote working, with occasional get-togethers (London/Bristol)
