About The Role

We are looking for a Middle QA Engineer who is detail-oriented, proactive, and confident working in a fast-moving environment without strict sprint cycles. You’ll work closely with developers and product engineers to ensure that our platform remains stable and reliable during frequent releases and urgent hotfixes.

You’ll focus on risk-based testing for payment flows, API validation, and maintaining lightweight QA coverage that balances speed with safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Manual Testing: Execute test cases for new features, regression, and hotfix validation across web and API layers.
• Risk-based Testing: Prioritize test coverage based on business and financial impact.
• API Testing: Perform end-to-end validation using Postman/Newman or similar tools.
• Test Documentation: Maintain clear checklists and regression sets for critical payment routes.
• Incident Feedback: Transform production incidents into new regression cases or automated checks.
• Automation Support: Contribute to automated test coverage (pytest, Playwright or similar frameworks).
• Collaboration: Work closely with developers and product owners to define test scope and validate fixes.
• Reporting: Provide concise QA summaries per release (status, scope, risks).
  
  

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in software testing (preferably in fintech, payments, or backend-heavy systems).
• Deep understanding of API testing, regression, and smoke strategies.
• Practical knowledge of payment concepts: Auth, Capture, Refund, 3DS, retries, webhooks, idempotency.
• Strong experience with REST API tools (Postman, Newman, or cURL).
• Basic SQL skills (PostgreSQL) and ability to analyze backend data.
• Comfortable working in Kanban or non-sprint environments.
• Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Grafana, Kibana, or Sentry).
• Strong attention to detail and ownership mindset.
• Good verbal and written English skills; ability to work in a remote, async team.
  
  

Nice to have

• Experience with PSPs (Stripe, PayPal, Adyen, Braintree, Worldpay, etc.).
• Familiarity with test automation (pytest, Playwright).
• Understanding of network tokenization (DPAN/NT) and 3DS flows.
• Prior work in fully remote, continuous deployment environments.
  
  

Location

Ruby Labs operates within the CET (Central European Time) zone. Applicants from any country are welcome to apply for the position as long as they are located within approximately ± 4 hours of CET. This ensures optimal collaboration and communication during working hours.
