Rendering Engineer - Core/Game Engine
Lucky Robots is building the world’s first "Game Engine for Robotics" - a real-time 3D simulation and training platform where AI learns to move, manipulate, and understand the physical world.
Our goal is to make large-scale robot training and testing environments accessible and fast.
As an early rendering engineer on this team, you’ll have the chance to shape the core rendering systems of the engine itself. We move quickly, experiment often, and value people who enjoy solving complex problems in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment where idea become reality fast.
We’re looking for an experienced Rendering Engineer to join our Rendering team, working on both the backend graphics APIs, high-level renderer, shaders/materials, and various modern rendering techniques.
Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer on the Rendering team, you will:
- Design, implement, and maintain the various levels and systems of the renderer in our custom robotics game engine
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable C++ and shader code, with a strong focus on performance and reliability
- Optimize the rendering subsystems for stability, scalability, and runtime efficiency
- Ensure compatibility with a wide range of hardware, especially GPUs
- Collaborate with other engineers and disciplines (AI, simulation, physics) to integrate new features and improve the developer experience
- Contribute to architectural discussions and share technical insights that shape the evolution of the engine
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of professional experience in modern C++ and solid understanding of software architecture
- 5+ years of experience working on rendering/graphics for real-time rendering engines, including graphics APIs such as Vulkan, Direct3D 12, or Metal
- Strong understanding of modern real-time 3D rendering, including rendering pipelines and modern rendering techniques such as real-time ray tracing and path tracing
- Strong understanding of 3D engine architecture
- Solid understanding of GPU hardware architecture and optimization
- Solid grasp of mathematics for 3D applications - Linear Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and Trigonometry
- Proven experience developing high-performance, real-time, and multi-threaded rendering systems
- Experience with parallel programming and multi-threading, including synchronization, job systems, and data-oriented design
- Experience working with or building game engines (e.g. Unreal, Unity, or proprietary/in-house engines)
- Understanding of software development life cycle, software engineering methodologies and practices, and software quality assurance concepts
Bonus
- Experience and understanding of various game engine systems
- Experience with C# and scripting systems
- Experience developing simulation or robotics software
- Contributions to open-source engine or graphics projects
- Passion for AI, physics, or the intersection of robotics and interactive 3D environments
