MonetizeMore enables digital publishers to build sustainable businesses by maximizing their advertising revenue with privacy‑first, cutting‑edge ad tech. We are a fully remote, globally distributed team that values ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
The Role
We’re looking for a Software Engineer (WordPress) with strong PHP and WordPress experience to help us build, scale, and maintain high‑performance publisher sites and WordPress‑based products that integrate with our ad tech stack. You’ll collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to ship features end‑to‑end in an agile, asynchronous environment.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain custom WordPress plugins and themes using modern PHP
- Build REST APIs and integrations with internal services and third‑party platforms (analytics, ad tech, SSO, etc.)
- Optimize performance (Core Web Vitals), security, and reliability across high‑traffic sites
- Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated tests, and code quality tooling
- Diagnose and resolve production issues; participate in an on‑call rotation (reasonable schedule, follow‑the‑sun)
- Partner with stakeholders to estimate effort, break down work, and deliver iterative value
- Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and knowledge sharing
- Enjoy owning features from design to deployment
- Communicate clearly in an async, remote‑first culture (Slack, docs, PRs)
- Care about developer experience, code quality, and maintainability
Must‑Haves
- 2–3 years professional experience building WordPress sites, plugins, or products
- Solid PHP (7.x/8.x) fundamentals and familiarity with modern patterns (OOP, namespaces, Composer, PSR standards)
- Strong WordPress expertise: hooks/filters, custom post types, WP‑CLI, multisite, Gutenberg/Block Editor
- Frontend proficiency: HTML5, CSS/Sass, JavaScript/TypeScript, React for Gutenberg blocks
- Experience with MySQL/MariaDB, query optimization, and caching (Object Cache/Redis, page caching)
- Git/GitHub (PR reviews, trunk‑based or GitFlow), CI/CD fundamentals
- Performance and security best practices (Core Web Vitals, CWEs/OWASP, nonces/capabilities)
- Comfortable working across time zones in a remote team
- Experience with ad tech (Google Ad Manager, Prebid, header bidding) or analytics (GA4, Looker Studio)
- Infrastructure experience: Docker, Nginx/Apache, Varnish, Cloudflare, AWS/GCP
- Automated testing in the WP/PHP ecosystem (PHPUnit, Pest, Playwright, Cypress)
- Familiarity with SEO, internationalization (i18n/l10n), and accessibility (WCAG)
- Experience with telemetry/observability (Logrocket/Sentry, OpenTelemetry, Datadog/New Relic)
- Build a privacy‑aware custom plugin that injects ad placements conditionally based on consent signals (TCF/US Privacy) and viewability
- Migrate legacy shortcodes to Gutenberg blocks with React and server‑side rendering for performance
- Implement an edge‑cache strategy and object caching to reduce TTFB and improve LCP across high‑traffic pages
- Create a small service that syncs WP content with internal APIs; expose a hardened REST endpoint for partners
