As a User Experience and Content Designer, you will be at the forefront of transforming digital services to be more human-driven, accessible, and efficient. You will be responsible for designing and enhancing services and content that meet user needs and align with our organisational goals. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create engaging, accessible, and meaningful experiences across various platforms.


Responsibilities

Ensure that established design standards are consistently and appropriately applied within design work

UX Design:

  • Apply user-centred design principles to ensure that services and content are clear, concise, and accessible to all users.
  • Conduct user research and gather insights to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points.
  • Design end-to-end user journeys that are easy to navigate, ensuring that users can easily complete tasks part of a service, securing a seamless user experience.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and design mock-ups that effectively communicate design ideas and solutions.
  • Engage with product management, engineering, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors to understand project
  • Develop and present documentation, user flows, annotated wireframes, and interactive prototypes
  • Leverage user testing make product improvements

Content Design:

  • Develop clear, concise, and compelling content for web pages, apps, communications and digital interfaces that meet user needs and enhance usability.
  • Advocate for accessibility best practices to ensure that all users, regardless of ability, can access and engage with our services and content.
  • Create documentation that guides users effectively and supports the overall design.
  • Ensure all content is aligned with brand tone and voice.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and iterate on content designs.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to convey information in a clear, concise, and compelling way.
  • Improving user experience by training, auditing and championing to ensure that all digital content meets user needs.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with developers, service designers and relevant stakeholders to integrate content and UX design into product development.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative design solutions and enhance product functionality.
  • Advocate for the user at all stages of the design and development process.

Testing and Optimisation:

  • Simplify complex government processes and information into user-friendly formats,
  • including websites and forms.
  • Conduct usability testing to validate design and content decisions.
  • Analyse performance data to refine and optimise both content and UX design for improved user engagement and satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with government standards, accessibility guidelines, and legal
  • requirements.
  • Use data analytics and performance metrics to assess service outcomes, continually
  • improving content and service design.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Humanities, Design, or a related field of study
  • 5+ years' experience in a dual role encompassing both UX/UI design and content design/strategy, preferably within a government or large public-facing organisation.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in user-centred design, information architecture, content strategy, and successful implementation of digital services.
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and synthesise user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing) into actionable design and content decisions.
  • Familiarity with government digital service standards and agile development methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to present and justify design and content rationale to stakeholders.
