Full-timeEngineering, Information Technology

At Waldevar Energy, we are at the forefront of the energy revolution, developing innovative solutions to create a more sustainable and efficient future. Our mission is to leverage cutting-edge technology—from AI to advanced robotics—to build, manage, and maintain the energy infrastructure of tomorrow. We believe in deploying autonomous systems to enhance safety, improve efficiency, and perform critical tasks in challenging environments.

Job Summary

Waldevar Energy is seeking a brilliant and motivated Robotics Engineer to pioneer the development of our autonomous robotics fleet. This role focuses on one of the most exciting challenges in modern robotics: enabling quadrupedal and bipedal robots to navigate complex, unstructured environments autonomously. You will be responsible for researching and implementing state-of-the-art algorithms in AI, perception, and control theory to give our robots the ability to walk, climb, and maneuver through our critical infrastructure sites for inspection and maintenance tasks.

This is a full-time, on-site role at our Voluntari R&D facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement advanced locomotion and navigation algorithms for legged robots (quadrupeds/bipeds) to ensure stable and efficient movement on varied terrain.
  • Develop and integrate robust perception systems using LiDAR, cameras, and IMU data for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping ( ) and dynamic obstacle avoidance.
  • Apply AI techniques, particularly Reinforcement Learning (RL), to train robust walking and climbing behaviors in simulation and successfully transfer them to physical hardware (sim-to-real).
  • Develop high-performance software within the ROS/ROS2 framework using both C++ and Python.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of algorithms in high-fidelity simulators (e.g., Gazebo, Isaac Sim) and on our robotic platforms in real-world scenarios.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate robotic perception data with our central asset management and analytics platforms.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing autonomous locomotion or navigation systems for legged robots.
  • Strong programming proficiency in both C++ and Python.
  • Hands-on, practical experience with ROS (ROS1 or ROS2).
  • Solid theoretical and applied knowledge of AI for robotics, specifically in Reinforcement Learning and/or Computer Vision.
  • A strong foundation in robot kinematics, dynamics, sensor fusion, and control theory.
  • Experience with modern robotics simulation environments (e.g., Gazebo).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Published research in a top-tier robotics conference (e.g., ICRA, IROS, CoRL).
  • Direct experience with sim-to-real transfer of RL policies for locomotion.
  • Hands-on experience with real-world quadrupedal or bipedal robot hardware (e.g., Boston Dynamics Spot, ANYbotics ANYmal, Unitree).
  • Experience with GPU programming (CUDA) for accelerating AI and perception workloads.
  • Familiarity with path planning algorithms such as A*, RRT*, and their variants.
