Role Description

This is a full-time remote role for a DevSecOps Engineer based in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The DevSecOps Engineer will strengthen our security posture by embedding security into every stage of our software development lifecycle. This is a hands-on role where you will focus on automation, tooling, and secure infrastructure practices to support our development and operations teams. You will work closely with developers, DevOps engineers, and security teams to build reliable, secure, and scalable systems—ensuring that speed of delivery never comes at the expense of security.

  • Microsoft 365 – our core business platform. It is used for managing our internal computer systems and we leverage Mail, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Office Suite for various business needs.
  • Microsoft Entra – our primary cloud-hosted AD
  • Microsoft Intune – device configuration solution for laptops and mobile devices
  • CrowdStrike – cloud-based endpoint protection, threat intelligence, and incident response
  • Datto– our current RMM for maintaining and remotely troubleshooting and monitoring endpoints
  • Slack – our primary communication tool and integration hub
  • Atlassian (JIRA and Confluence) – our primary project management tools. JIRA service desk for reporting and managing issues.


Responsibilities:

Infrastructure & Cloud Security

  • Deploy and manage secure infrastructure in cloud environments (Azure required. AWS or GCP is a plus).
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) security best practices.
  • Manage IAM policies (Entra), secrets management, and least-privilege access.


Monitoring & Response

  • Implement tools for security monitoring, logging, and alerting.
  • Assist in vulnerability scanning, patch management, and remediation.
  • Support incident response processes when needed.


Collaboration

  • Work side-by-side with DevSecOps and software engineers to build “security by design.”
  • Document security practices and contribute to internal playbooks.


Qualifications:

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2–5+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability, or Security-focused engineering roles.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and tooling (Azure DevOps and TeamCity. Experience with other tools is a plus [GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI]).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure required. AWS or GCP is a plus).
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with security tools (e.g., DerScanner, Snyk, Trivy, Aqua, Prisma Cloud, HashiCorp Vault).
  • Experience with IaC (Terraform, Ansible, Helm) and related security controls.
  • Scripting ability (Python, Bash, Go, or similar).
  • Understanding of OWASP Top 10, common vulnerabilities, and security best practices.
  • Experience with compliance standards is a plus (CMMC, CIS, SOC 2, GDPR).


Preferred Skills

  • Experience in vulnerability management and penetration testing.
  • Security-focused certifications (e.g., CKS, AWS Security Specialty, Security+).

Work Environment

This is a remote position with access to our Lee's Summit, MO or Overland Park, KS offices when needed for coworking. Additional benefits include:
