Korn Ferry is partnering with Burstows to appoint their Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is a unique opportunity to lead a purpose-driven organisation with a proud legacy and a commitment to compassionate and trusted service. Burstows is an industry leader, and a 5th generation family-owned enterprise who seeks to appoint their first external CEO. You’ll be supported by a dedicated and deeply experienced Board and a passionate team of 70, with Korn Ferry guiding the appointment process to ensure the highest standards of quality leadership.
About the Role
The CEO is accountable to the Board of Directors for the overall leadership, operational, and commercial performance of Burstows. This role will shape the future of the organisation, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compassionate funeral services while maintaining compliance with all legal, human resources, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial delegations and management.
- Operational performance including a continuous improvement and operations excellence focus.
- Development of all contemporary HR and P&C policies, procedures, systems, training, and reporting processes.
- Ensure compliance with privacy law, consumer protection, environmental, ESG sustainability, and fair-trading legislation.
- Enhance Burstows’ profile via effective community engagement and industry networking.
- Foster a positive and safe workplace culture, and lead staff development.
- Oversee property and asset management.
- Accurate, timely and transparent reporting to the Board, and attainment of strong governance practices.
Ideal Candidate
You are a professional, strategic, and values-driven executive with:
- Proven leadership experience in service-oriented, highly regulated environments.
- Strong corporate governance skills, including financial, IT, commercial and operational acumen.
- Deep Human Resources / People & Culture expertise.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills based on trust, empathy, transparency and integrity.
- Emotional intelligence and a deep commitment to community service and client care.
