About RideOnTrack
RideOnTrack is a Belgian technology company building mission-critical communication systems for sectors where reliability and safety are essential — such as railways, public safety, and critical infrastructure. Founded in 2011 and based in Geel, Belgium, we combine deep telecom expertise with modern software engineering to deliver solutions like FRMCS and MCX dispatching, IoT-based condition monitoring, and radio network performance analytics.
We’re driven by three core values: Safety First, Customer Centricity, and Continuous Innovation. These values shape how we build, collaborate, and grow — whether that’s contributing to international standards like 3GPP, ETSI, and UNIFE, or developing new ways to make mission-critical communication simpler and more secure.
At RideOnTrack, we bring together a passionate, multidisciplinary team that thrives on turning complex challenges into elegant, future-proof solutions.
About the Position
We are seeking a talented and driven R&D Engineer – MCX Systems to join our team in Geel, Belgium. In this role, you will contribute to the development of our next-generation MCX (Mission-Critical Communication) and FRMCS (Future Rail Mobile Communication) systems, working on software that forms the backbone of reliable communication for railways, public safety, and other critical infrastructure sectors.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, collaborating on the design, development, and testing of cross-platform client applications and core communication modules. Your work will involve technologies such as C++, Python, and Unix-based environments, with opportunities to contribute across the entire development lifecycle — from architecture and implementation to validation and deployment.
We’re looking for someone who thrives on complex problem-solving, values reliability and precision, and is eager to help shape the future of mission-critical communications.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the MCX team to develop and deploy state-of-the-art software solutions for Mission-Critical Environments.
- Contribute to software components ranging from cross-platform client applications to scalable server solutions within our MCX and FRMCS product lines.
- Take part in the complete development cycle — from architecture and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Develop efficient, reliable, and maintainable code in C++, Rust and Python, while applying strong analytical and debugging skills.
- Work in Unix-like environments using modern tools such as Git and CMake.
- Collaborate closely with other engineers to deliver high-quality, future-proof software for mission-critical communication systems.
Profile:
- Master’s or PhD degree in Science with a background in Informatics, or related disciplines such as Physics or Mathematics (linked to informatics).
- Proficient in Unix-like environments with hands-on experience using Git.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, able to process large amounts of complex technical information efficiently.
- Experienced with at least one compiled language (e.g. C++, Rust) and one interpreted language (e.g. Python).
- Experience with Android and/or iOS development is an asset.
- Knowledge of build systems (e.g. CMake) and monorepo management is an advantage.
- Familiarity with telecommunication protocols (e.g. SIP, RTP, WebRTC) is a plus.
- Fluent in English; Dutch is an asset.
- Comfortable working in a challenging, international, and innovation-driven environment.
Our offer:
- Be part of a highly skilled R&D team developing the infrastructure behind mission-critical communication systems for railways and critical infrastructure operators.
- Work with cutting-edge technologies in FRMCS, MCX, and cloud-native architectures.
- A modern and inspiring workplace at the Cipal Innovation Centre in Geel.
- Competitive salary and benefits above market standards.
- Opportunities for career development and international collaboration.
- A role where your work directly enhances the reliability, scalability, and resilience of systems vital to safety and operations.
If you are passionate about technology and problem-solving and want to grow with a leading company, we would love to hear from you! Please submit your resume and cover letter to join our dynamic team.
