About the Role

we are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering team while driving the design and development of secure, high-performing systems. You’ll own our technical roadmap, align engineering with product and business goals, and promote a culture of innovation, ownership, and smart use of AI tools. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineering leader with experience in fast-paced environments, cloud architecture, and regulated industries.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and manage engineering teams to guide the development of features, services, and infrastructure
• Oversee the design, architecture, and implementation of core systems, ensuring security, resilience, performance, and maintainability
• Implement and evolve Kriptomat’s IT and data strategy, including system architecture, tooling, and ongoing transformation initiatives
• Ensure systems and practices align with information security management standards (e.g. ISMS) and compliance requirements
• Actively promote and support the smart use of AI tools and technologies to improve engineering efficiency, automation, and innovation
• Collaborate cross-functionally, translating business requirements into technical trade-offs, aligning product and engineering roadmaps, and managing dependencies
• Drive high-quality engineering practices, including code reviews, documentation, testing, and continuous integration
• Foster a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and accountability within the engineering team
• Be a thoughtful technical leader, supporting architectural decisions and long-term system design choices

Job requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, including 2–3 years in engineering leadership roles
• Proven experience in a fast-paced, high-growth software or tech company
• Strong background in developer experience/productivity, infrastructure, or platform engineering is a plus
• Solid understanding of IT systems, cloud architecture, DevOps practices, and software development lifecycles
• Strong understanding of ISMS principles and experience working in secure, regulated environments
• Awareness of AI tools and frameworks and their application in improving developer workflows and system optimisation
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building and mentoring high-performing teams
• Fluency in English (written and verbal)

• Hybrid location for candidates from Ljubljana, Slovenia or Zagreb, Croatia.
