OnX Canada has partnered with a major financial institution seeking a Data Scientist to join their team for a 12-month contract.
Hybrid: 2–3 days per week onsite in Toronto
About the Role
Our client is seeking a Data Scientist to join its innovative team focused on Generative AI (GenAI), Prompt Engineering, and Responsible AI Governance. This role will be instrumental in building and evaluating advanced AI and machine learning models, with an emphasis on safe and effective deployment of new GenAI use cases.
You’ll work closely with both technical and business stakeholders, applying statistical and data science expertise to solve complex problems and implement cutting-edge AI solutions across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy machine learning and predictive models within Wealth Management.
- Develop and apply GenAI and Prompt Engineering techniques to real-world business scenarios.
- Evaluate and optimize Large Action Models (LAMs) — understand when and how to use various models effectively.
- Lead and contribute to Responsible AI Governance — defining guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and production processes for AI use cases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, communicating insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement and innovation in AI capabilities across the bank
Required Qualifications
- 3–8 years of experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI development.
- Strong proficiency in Python and Jupyter Notebook.
- Proven experience with GenAI and Prompt Engineering.
- Solid understanding of LAM architectures, use cases, and limitations.
- Advanced degree (Master’s preferred) in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Statistics.
- Strong business acumen and ability to translate complex models into actionable insights.
Nice to Have
- Experience in the banking or insurance sector.
- Familiarity with Responsible AI frameworks and AI governance practices.
- Knowledge of production-level ML pipelines and model evaluation tools.
